What better way to tour the sight then to have someone who was there????

I wonder how many reams of glossy photo paper he will need to print out for his pictures? :D

Oddly enough i still havent done all the sights yet, even though i been down there twice now.
I'll make it up when i have saved me pennys and come down for a tour again i think!
At least last october i had a car.. even if it was a Sonata with bald tyres and expired rego sticker :?

Good on ya for looking after Dirk the way you did. I don't think he could have had a better guide than yourself. Dirk was so enthusiastic about his trip and i enjoyed his time with us. Any luck, we'll catch up with him again.
Scott.
Hey Scott,

It was truly a pleasure, although I must admit we were on the go every day.
Thanks to guys like you and Kylie and your family, along with quite a few locations to visit (and find!), Dirk and I had a full agenda of fun things to do.

I'm not really much of a MM2 fan, but there are now some things I can't help admiring ...
That's gotta be Dirk and all his fellow fans of MM2, Emil himself (what a guy!), your car (don't sell it!?) and two T Shirts that were so kindly presented to me by yourself.
As you have probably seen in the photo's, I have worn both of them (once only). Since then I've washed and folded them, but now don't want to wear them very often for fear of wearing them out. Love 'em!
:D

Thanks again,

Dale

Hi Sam,

Dirk may have a container load of glossy photo paper sitting out the back of his home in Germany!?
He took about 2,200 photo's! (that includes Adelaide and Broken Hill over 27 days).

You really need the time to see "all" the sights ...

Judging by almost 9 days with Dirk in and around Melbourne, I think 2 weeks or more would be better. (To also meet up with people/replica owners, which adds something special in my opinion).
I suppose it really comes down to how much time you have at your disposal. Dirk did a lot of homework, but even more could have been useful if time allowed.
There's at least two locations we didn't make it to, a few others we don't know, and we didn't even have time to watch Mad Max and Not Quite Hollywood together as we had planned before he got here.

It can certainly become time involving but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

It will be interesting to see Dirk's opinion on how much time would be ideal for a thorough "Mad Max tour" around the Melbourne locations (which he has probably already planned in his mind for the next trip! ;) ?).

Regards,

Dale Bensch

Go Dirk! ...

well dale

we met dirk as you know at the bbq, it was a pleasure to meet him and you along with troy and others

we have to ask the big question? when are we going to see the web page of madmax tours lol

im sure dirk would agree you did it so well, along with others too, he fit so much in his tour, i feel living in vic i havnt had the chance to see as much as he did, when i get the car on the road i plan to get to melb and check a bit out for myself

as i have just picked up my own max yellow replica, even though a bit rough but it looks the part, i even got those huge roof lights delivered on the friday before going to canberra to pick the car up, which is another story, can you imagine towing a car on a trailer 500klms with no clutch on the tow car, with a madmax car on the back.

we will post some pics of the car when we figure out how to get pics on the forum.

I'm about to finish the rest of my photos, so i can post some of my pilgrimage to the Mad Max 2 locations.

On the 12th in the afternoon i was flying from Melbourne to Adelaide,
where Adrian picked me up. At the 13th he took me up Mt. Lofty, where i took this panorama:

On the 15th Adi and me made our way to Silverton.
We just made it in time to get to the sunset at the Mundi Mundi lookout.

The lookout is really amazing.... it really took my breath away when you drive up there
and you come over the crest and see the endless vastness of this place.

On the 16th Adrian and me were meeting up with Ian Mitchell (he was unit runner in MM2) to get up to the Pinnacles.
After we got permission from the mining company we made our way to the 'main' Pinnacle.

Quite at the base of it Ian were showing me the spot where Max & the Gyro Captain
where watching the Marauders attack(where Wez pinned Nathan to the buggy).

At early evening Chris from the Silverton Pub asked me, if i would like to take his car
up to the Mundi Mundi Lookout, to catch the sunset.
How could i say no? It was really amazing to drive the Falcon up there!

The last photo needs a bit of explanation.
Some tourists broke the door handle on the drivers side on Chris's Falcon.
No big problem, because you still have the other side...
After we took some photos, i drove the Falcon to the other side of the road (where the sign is)
to make some more photos there.
When we wanted to leave, the other door wont open! Door lock was still up....
Well, what happened was, that the plastic 'connector' came off the upper door lock mechanism.
Old plastic tend to harden with time, so a piece of the plastic nose which clips in the hole of the door handle just broke.
Very fortunately Adi has a Next G phone, so he could call for assistance!
Chris came to the rescue, but we couldn't get in (with a metal rod/wire).
He headed back home, to get a longer rod with a hook, to get between the windows (there was a gap) to reach the handle on the other side.
Just when he came back, a friend of him managed to open the door!
He was able to get under the remained tiny piece of the broken handle and was able to pull it, so the door opened.

Haha, what an adventure!

Later Chris handed me over the metal wire, the 'key' to the interceptor... Heh, a nice souvenir... I always have to smile when i watch at it!
