Dirk Down Under 2009

Post by Donut Dale »

The one and only Cueball is here in Oz.

It is an honour to introduce Dirk’s thread to this great forum and it's a pleasure knowing and associating with him.

Despite having to deal with jetlag, high temperatures of up to 45 °C (113 °F) and the magic of Max, he is doing very well and enjoying the trip very much.
(As I post, it’s 45.8 °C in Melbourne).

Nelson and I met Dirk at Sydney airport in the early hours of Saturday 31st January after his 27 hours of travel and customs clearance to enter the land of Max.

Dirk’s itinerary was off to a flying start with the Sydney screening of Mad Max, which was the first time he’d seen it on the big screen.
(Thanks heaps to all the Sydney people … we know who you are!)

Please feel free to enjoy Dirk’s experiences and all positive input is most welcome.

For anyone that can possibly catch up, we'd love to see you at the BBQ tomorrow 8th and/or Little River B&B Wednesday 11th.

So without further ado, here goes the Dirk Down Under 2009 thread ...

Oh, I had to post my Aussie welcome to Dirk … (with his permission):

On his Sydney tour we managed to see The Gap, The Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, Bondi Beach go on a ferry through the Harbour to Manly Beach all with Dale which was amazing. All that on top of his Mad Max adventures I would say he is having the ultimate guy's holiday. As fun as Sydney was I am sure that visiting the sites of Mad Max 1 and 2 will be the highlight.

G'Day mates!

Last Saturday Dale & me went to another highlight of my tour, BBQ with Emil and his family.
It was my first Aussie BBQ, although they had no shrimps to put on the barbie :o
I was having a great time and after lunch I got a very special present that blew me away!
How good is that? Thanks to everyone that was involved!!!
I had something prepared for Emil too, but silly me was putting the wrong one in my backpack.
Unfortunately time was running out very quick (always when good things are happening)
and we had to leave Emil and his nice family again.
We were able to see him the next day at work, to give him the right present from me and due to it, I also had the chance to get a nice present for my wife too.
Thanks again for the great evening :!:

We are a few days behind in the posts because we're running around like a Pursuit Special on methane, but anyway ...

Whilst in Sydney ...

Sunday Feb 1st:
From the Manly Ferry we thought we were being followed by Nic Gazzana still playing his role in The Pirate Movie:

Monday Feb 2nd:
We captured the essence of Captain James Cook (who was holding something in his left hand):

(Thanks to Nico for the suggested camera angle) :o

Much more to come.

(In case it wasn't made clear, I am with Dirk since his arrival on Jan 31st at Sydney until he leaves Melbourne for Adelaide on Feb 12th, so my input from that time is from locations we shared).
