Another option might be to find a laptop with a BR drive, as their region code can be changed a minimum number of times.

Not that I would ever condone unlawful behavior, but enterprising individuals can find a way around region coding.

As far as I'm aware, it's not actually unlawful to have a region free player in Australia - the whole region coding thing was challenged legally some time back, and they lost. A lot of off the shelf players these days come Region free, although unfortunately the PS3 doesn't appear to be one of them - most likely due to Sony making revenue from more than just players, including owning interests in various studios.

I'll most likely just rip and re-burn it on the PC at some point so I can watch it, although if a local release is imminent (no word yet), I'll just opt for that instead.

It is possible to place an order for a multi region blu-ray player to Hd Land, but it is a French shop. The sellers are very serious but I do not know if they send items to other countries than France.

Wow, of all the technology out there that can be broken the ONE thing that's almost impossible is to make a PS3 region free. Obviously, you can still do practically anything with a PC. Does this mean that someone with the time, proper tools, and know-with-all can copy/download a Blu-Ray and then burn a region free copy? I'd say almost certainly YES.
