The Best Vehicle Manufacturers--Ford OR Chevy

All this debate reminds of this commercial Chevy shows. ITs a whole bunch of clips from horror movies like Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw, and Cujo, showing the drivers desperately trying to start their cars as the killer(s) surround them. The last shot was of a (pick-axe) coming through the roof of a damsel in distress's vehicle. Then the screen turns black and "Don't you wish everything was as reliable as a Chevy" and the sound of an engine starting. ITs pretty hilarious. But, let me tell you something, my Olds Cutlass Supreme is ALMOST 20 years old, and its great! There was absolutely no rust on it when i first got it and when i had it painted a week later i was speechless. The car is in perfect condition. Maybe some of you guys out there aren't taking into account the OWNERS of the vehicles. Some assholes just plan to run their cars right into the ground (like Roop, maybe) not really appreciating the vehicle but just satisfied that "it goes real fast." The prior owner of my vehicle obviously took care of it and now i am obligated to to do the same. I have my fun with it (and of course it is not a part of the 70's era muscle cars) but it has some toughness, but i'm not going to to beat the shit out of it trying to prove myself to every asshole who comes along. Sometimes i just glide by some freaks on the highway, not trying to start anything but just cruisin, and they put the pedal to the medal and chug past me spewing all manner of smoke and shit and practically collapsing in a heap of rust on the black top. I let them go, usually, and within one minute I roar pass him, because he's now fucked his vehicle up good. I'm just saying, when you ride your vehicle to shit, shit is what you'll end up with.

That's a hard one with the big OR there, lol...
Both companies have their 2 coolest car brands in my view. Chevy has the corvette, and Ford has the Cobra (although the Cobra wasn't made by Ford, but just sold under the Ford name, it was manufactured by a British (I think British) company).
Other than those 2 cars, and some in the '40's and '50's, I don't like phurds and shivvies.

The bodies were made by AC in England and sent to Shelby American in California where they received Ford powerplants starting with 260's, then 289's, then 427's. Ford owns the Cobra name and uses it to this day.
Carroll had in storage Cobra bodies and numerous parts to complete some additional Cobras and still had a number of serial numbers reserved that had not been used yet.
He tried to get approval to continue the CSX2XXX series cars by 60's standards, but EPA said "No", so Carroll is doing the "continuation" Cobras with the knowledge that they are not street legal. No matter, they still sell well to vintage racers, Bolivian drug lords etc.
The 67 Shelby Mustang was the last Shelby's facility actually made before Ford took over and made the 68 & 69 Shelby's while Carroll went on safari for a while...
Shelby American is also making a fiberglass bodied Cobra that IS street legal with the fiberglass bodies made by prisoners at a jail near Vegas. The fiberglass bodies were made from Carrolls 427 aluminum Cobra body which can be seen on a rotisserie with John Thomas in the pic at my site.
What is exciting is he has an all new car called the Shelby Series 1 which has the front airflow design (downforce) similar to a GT40 with styling cues that pay homage to the original Cobra while still being its own car. The car is setup so once they find out the weight of the driver, they can perfectly balance it for handling.
Since folks are afraid to drive their cars flat out sometimes, S.A. uses their 2 certification cars to "teach" owners the handling of these cars as they will handle more than most people think they will. Once a customer thrashes out one of the workhorse cars, then they get their car. Shelby wants them to know what the car is capable of and feels they'll learn better by taking chances with one of the workhorse they would not take with thei own car. The Vegas International Speedway is just a few feet from Shelby American as he was the first to signup for a paddock area there.
A couple of months ago I visited Shelby American and took copious notes as well as some pix including the ole snake charmer himself. I was particularly interested in the 427 side oiler engine Shelby's California facility CNC's from billet stock.
I found his people most humble and down to earth - Levi's bluejean wearing, chili-eating and quite friendly. Shelby himself could have made his office less accessible, but he chose to put it right where folks could see him, get close to him etc.
A lot of his people have been with him from the beginning which says a lot about the man as well. I noted the absence of the Daytona Coupe and asked where it was and got some grins and pulled to the side for some great anecdotal information.
Regs,
Steve

: Blah Blah. Shut up.
When one contributes, they are told "Shut up" or a replica builder has his car picked apart bolt by bolt. When a replica builder/owner gets tired of insults (including via e-mail) and drops out of site, then they're thought of as not sharing / arrogant / secretive etc. Either way they lose.
Ever notice a conspicous lack of participation from certain people on this group? Ever wonder why? It's because of "punk" attitudes like the above.
