Ideas??

Post by scrowdiddly »

Hey fellas, new here from Colorful Colorado. Been reading for quite a while and love seeing some of yall's inspired cars. I'm a huge fan of the Max films, a characteristic my friends often get annoyed with. Which brings me to the title of the post.

I've had a '76 Mercury Montego ever since just after I graduated highschool 5 years ago. I often catch myself staring at it in my drive way, wondering what i could do to it to make it so much more awesome and (as my friends like to say) more Mad Max-ish. As she sits now in her coppery goodness; she doesnt have a muffler, speedo is sh!t, i put on a big ol' 4bbl carb and manifold (combined with the lack of a muffler makes her really purr!!) and i through on some freebie rims i got on a trade for some labor i did for a fella.... Now I've had many thoughts and ideas with what to do with her but I'ld rather hear some insight from you guys before I put my thoughts on the idea board. Now heres a couple pictures from before i put on my free rims...Enjoy!

Welcome to the boards!

That's quite the vehicle you've got there! What's under the hood?

Here are some ideas the won't cost you a cent:

Take off the grill. Makes it look mean(er).
If you can get away with it, take off the hood too. There's nothing like seeing a big ol' V8 sitting there.

And if you want to spend some money:

'Copper' doesn't really shout "Mad Max". Paint it flat balck.
Get some wagon wheel rims.
Get some big/wide tires, especially for the rear.
If you're thinking about getting the exhaust done, think about putting on some zoomie pipes, or (with the hood off) do this: Image

What ideas do you have? Keep us posted on what you're thinking about doing.

Yeah, welcome aboard!! Dave is correct, the possibilities are endless. Can you weld? use a torch? Automotive background?

Well shes got a big 351m under the hood, which sounds cool until you look up the stock engine stats and see she was born with only about 160hp, this just means that with the 50,000 or so miles that she has she has lost more hp than could be gained by the 4bbl carb...nevertheless she sounds mean and can be heard (according to my friends) about 4-5 blocks away

and yeah ive got an automotive backround but not much of one (tire tech, alighnment tech, used to work at a airplane propeller shop) so i dont have much experience welding but hope to change that soon. also just heard im being considered for a pretty awesome job (or at least it sounds awesome to me) so money might start rolling in so......

Morris, dude that car looks like around the same year but an LTD or an Elite, still i love the grill on that thing, looks firggen badass! where is that picture from i dont remember it from the movies? maybe my memory is bad and i should watch them again, hell why not hahah

Also thanks guys for welcoming me to the boards, and as a little tour de force ill show you my truck, its nothing special just a beat up ol' toyota, but shes my beat up ol' toyota

'86 and now she doesnt have a grill anymore (rammed a snow pile too hard, infact i think that video might still be on youtube...) theboxes on the back are gone, the tires are bigger more meatier, the drivers fender is now white and a dented replacement (tree) lots more dents, busted windows (softball, bbgun, dont ask lol) hasnt had an exhaust since three days after i bought her decided she was too quiet and therefor not my truck, added a roll bar in the back and a few other mods ..........Enjoy!

Bolt a couple of old turbo's attached to some sidedraft carbs on the hood. And offcourse black, but not flat black, just unpolished and dirty. Perfect Marauder car ;)

yeah i thought about doing a marauder car, and i wouldnt allow myself to paint her flat black, besides the fact that shes not a falcon my uncle (an occomplished body and paint guy/dragracer) would kill me if i wasted a fairly straight body with some flat black...

and on another note, was fifi's car a two door or a four door?
EDIT: nevermind i guess it was a riviera

I'm seeing a small power winch mounted dead center between the bumper guards. I'm planning on one for my Dodge. I figure that if you're gonna be marauding and scavenging, you'll need an extra hand. Also good if you get stuck on those unmaintained post-nuke dirt roads.

i kinda like that idea Armourer...i was trying to think of a way to make the front look less 2nd class luxury, and more "ill run you down if you dont move", one of those thoughts included a cattle catcher, and a winch wouldnt be hard to incorperate....

Nice... sounds like something I'd say about one of my old trucks!

I think that winch would be a great idea.
