Couldn't find a topic on this one and was just curious what you all do for good screen grabs.
I need some good pics from Thunderdome for my Bartertown costume, so right now I have VLC converting it to an MP4, then I'll play that in VLC and use it's snapshot feature for the pics. My preferred route would be to get the movie into Premiere Pro so I can jog shuttle it and get the exact frames I want, but I cannot seem to get the codecs to work out right and I can't be bothered to rig up a DVD/1394/capture rig tonight.
Anyway just wondering what you guys do. I did take a few pics of the TV the other night, but the pics did not turn out well and it was clumsy to do. Besides, when you do this stuff on the computer you get the whole image without underscan. Sometimes there are characters standing there that you couldn't see normally!

Get Media Player Classic, shit works, also, you can screencap it unlike WMP or most commercial players.

If your computer plays DVDs, you've got it made.
Just play the movie until you get to the scene you want. Pause it at the right spot.
Hold 'Ctrl' and click 'Prt Scr/SysRq'. The 'Prt Scr/SysRq' button should be in the upper right of your keyboard. This makes a copy of whatever is displayed on your screen.
Open your Paint program, hold 'Ctrl' and click 'v'. This 'pastes' the copy onto Paint.
Drag the image wherever you want it, adjust the borders where you want them, and save it.
Saving it as a BMP file will keep the detail best, but saving it as a JPG should be fine too.
That's all there is to it. I do it all the time.
Let me know if you need further info!

Some versions of PowerDVD have a screen capture button. hit the button and you have a screenshot ready to go. I take a lot of screen snaps as reference for my modelling hobby.
