Question for BoB owners

Post by PursuitSpecial »

So how recognizable is the car?

I know it mostly depends upon location as I would think it would be more recognizable in Australia than anywhere else, but what are your experiences?

How many people on the street know what the car is, how many say it looks familiar but they can't place it, and how many think it's cool but had no idea it was in a movie?

I never realised the cars from mad max untill i came to australia to catch up with my father, i thought the night rider car was a mustang, and the others were a head scratcher,we used to drive by a car every day on our way to work, thats untill it had a whole new meaning one monday morning returning mad max 1&2 vhs movies, the car was an xc coupe, it had huge wheels hotwires, and cobra rear spoiler, it was the rear end that gave it away,2 weeks later it was mine.

Now my own pursuit special is on the road, ive had people as young as 18 recognise it as the black car from mad max,i dont have the blower on it yet,but even as it is they know what film its from, some commadore drivers refuse to recognise it  but overall ive only had a couple of folks ask what movie is your car from :?: back to the future i answered

I have people in suits yell out 'see you on the highway scag'. I'm used to it, but it scares the hell out of passengers.

Well for me hear in the midwest USA. almost everybody reconizes what they see as a really cool black car and then ask what it is. I tell them Australian Ford Falcon. the response is whoa and it even drives on the wrong side, did it come like that? LOL I tell them ya its the Mad Max Car and then they almost always say "ya ya Beyond thunder dome" Then i know there not sure, but i set them straight about the movies etc.. No no the blower is fake etc.. but its powered by a built Big block 460 with aluminum heads etc.. thats just about everytime out! I almost dread stoping at the gas station before a road trip because i almost always get held up with Q&A. But its all good. the last time out i was at the gas pump refueling on my way home to bed after a car show. And these kids were checking out the car and one of them says mannn you must get some chicks drivin this car! My wife was in the pass seat and i said yea i got my wife! (We met at my buddies house who was helping me cut out the hole in the hood for a shaker hood scoop he maid for me that looked like the Scott hat before i found my blower/parts)...... She got a kick out of it!

Hey well to start the 428 is a differnt motor. The 428 is known as the FE block that consist of 332,352,360,390,406,410,427,428. The motor i have is known as the 385 series motors witch consist of the 429 and 460. Anyway i have experience with FE's and 385 series engines. The best way to go with the FE block is the Edlbrock aluminum 72cc 390/428 cobra jet heads and matching performer RPM intake. Then i would stick to a RV or off idle cam for the best milage/street torque plus the good vacume for power brakes. Lots of guys cant figure ouy why Ford has 427,428,429 cube engines. The 427FE was built for racing and Nascar it has the small 390 crank and very large bores. Making the motor over square witch is perfect for high rpms. the 428 FE has smaller bore and bigger crank to get its cubes. Its for low rpm torque witch was better for street in large passenger cars and trucks although there was the high perfmance 428FE Cobra Jet with large port heads and stronger bottom end. The 429 was the start of a new design block with better oiling and thinwall casting to keep weight down there was also a 429 Super cobra jet spec engine too. It was homolagated in muscle cars for use in Nascar. The stroked 429 known as 460 was used in large passenger cars and trucks for its large amounts of torque. The 429/460 has HUGE permance potental with little cost in building. A recent build on Horsepower TV built a mild 460 that made 375 horse and 495 ft lbs of torque! The FE's with alum top end will be lighter than all cast 351windsor motor. A fully dressed cleveland cast iron stock is 784 lbs a 429/460 with alum heads/intake/waterpump/carb/alt. is around 650-660lbs some were in there. My 460 edlbrock alum heads weighed 44lbs each. I also used weiand stealth intake. I did not go with cobra jet spec heads as my motor will not spin much past 5grand. 351 windsor motors are in upper 500lbs range if i remmember right. Oh and by the way for fun the 351 windsor motor is 60lbs lighter than 350 chevy motor and smallblock 289/302 ford is 100lbs lighter than 350 chevy engines stock vs stock! LOL So why ever put chevy in a hot rod? LOL
