Post by DetritusMaximus »

Been awhile since I've been on here, but I figured I'd start a game....and it isn't necessarily easy!

Okay, maybe I was wrong about how hard it would be. I guess another person has actually seen it...I couldn't really pull any other shots without it being really obvious. I hear Guillermo Del Toro is having a replica made for him.

I'll see what I can come up with...or maybe whomever guesses correctly gets to post the next quiz...

Saw 'The Car' at the drive-in when I was a kid. Loved it. Of course looking back, it's a bit on the cheesy side. My neighbor a block over had a black Lincoln coupe that reminded me of the movie car. Just another film that helped turn me into a gear-head.

Extra point if you can identify the tire by the tread design, or at least what it appears to be. ;)

I believe the tires were Goodrich's.

They could be vintage Goodrich's, I don't know for sure. But I had a set of bias ply Protracs that were identical. Even the modern Protracs are really similar. Great street tires once you burned half the tread height down, then they would hook up almost like a slick.

Looks like the old Mickey Thompson dogbones, but I thought they had the "I"s going the same way.

First saw The Car on a double feature with 'Rollercoaster'. The Car is cheesy, but it's usually the 'drama', not the desert action scenes (cranked up camera speed aside!). Alot of that stuff was very well shot. Even the 'chicken' roll over was cool. I freeze framed thru it and the cop car that gets squashed was driven into/under the Car as it was flipping thru the air, you can see the driver duck down under the dash as the Car flips into the cop car. I can't imagine what was going thru the stunt driver's mind as that was going on.
The first three shots are from the same sequence, the third was just a quick edit as the rear view mirror suddenly appears.
