1/ is a maybe but 9/ is a definite. Don´t agree with the others. MM3 tried to cater for biggest cinema audiences, so nobody dies, everything is funny, it`s all fun. This was the failing of MM3. It hasn`t got the raw hardness and brutality of MM1 or 2.

I can't disagree with you, it's been so long since I've seen BT I forgot that nobody died.

And doesn't Ironbar die in that final head on crash with Max's truck?

And what happened to the guy that got launched when his motorcycle hit the side of the bridge. It was a big bridge, so it must have been a big ravine.

I think some characters die, but you don't see the actiual kill.

Remember, Blaster gets shot in the stomach with a couple of crossbow bolts. There is a quick shot of the bolts penetrating, and another quick shot show the bolts imbeded in his stomach as he dies.

2. American influence and funding
3. Tina Turner
One in the same.... but the reasons for adding Tina im thinking was to give a less "Australian" feel to the movie.
Only a few characters in the movie retain their aussie accents, while the rest are kinda mixed.
This gives the audience no clue as to where it is set, until they fly over the remains of Sydney.
4. Return of the Jedi copying
You lost me here, at no point did i see Max using the force or pullin out a light sabre.
5. Mid 80's style and music
Well it was made in the mid 80s???

You forgot one important failure.
Those annoying kids!

MM3 as I think most of us here have said in the past, as a continuation of the MM series doesnt fit well at all.
As a stand alone movie though it is a good movie however.
It was as stated "made to cater for a different audience".

Tina Turner's the only outwardly American element to the film - nowhere in the film's formal style or it's narrative is there any apparent American influence. There's studio funding from Warner Bros., and that was certainly something new to the saga - but, WB is and was at the time a pretty broad and international house of filmmaking, financially speaking.

I can't see anywhere in the film that it copied or had any influence from Return of the Jedi - if you're talking about the children, their depiction was far harsher than the Ewoks or anything from Spielberg, which is another common comparison. Though ultimately optimistic, they're nevertheless very much of their time and place.

As far as the music goes - the only thing I can think of are Tina Turner's two singles, and while fo' sho' they're very much of their decade, they're not bad songs, and they fit very well with the context and themes of the trilogy in general. Besides, it's Tina Turner - her music sounds like that now, never mind the eighties.

Lord of the Flies copying? You know, having outward influences isn't a bad thing, right?

Number 9's a given, though - it's a Mad Max film, and their immediate point of origin was Miller's fascination w/ the car chase. Each of the films are attempts at experimentation with car chases and creative editing. The one at the end of Thunderdome isn't any different in that respect, although it does differ widely from the ones found in either MM or MM2.

You know, there isn't much that would make either of the two previous films an R, now. There's not really a lot of harsh language, maybe one or two sparse Ocker nudie shots, but that's about it.

This column by John Brosnan divulges some criticism on why Thunderdome pales to its successors.
