Black on black.......... NO, .......Black on Ice

Post by Gasoline »

Not quite mad max, but worthy of posting on here.
I was tasked with doing an organisational assessment on a new snow operator yesterday. They are a private company that intend to run a couple of tracked SUV's out of Falls creek ski resort. These 2 bad boys are so large, they are classified as a bus, and both of them had less than 20kms on the odometer.
With up to 15 passengers on-board, They start on the bitumen in the resort and then claw their way straight up the mountain and 12km (8miles) across the saddle to Mount McKay. They remain at the summit for 20 minutes with hot drinks and nibbles before returning and the total trip takes 2 hours. Its not as expensive as you think. On a time/cost basis, it's cheaper than a taxi.
And if you think it couldn't get any cooler than that, you have the option of skiing or snowboarding back down in advance of the vehicle.

Before you rush out and order one. The price tag, including all engineering and conversion is $500,000 Aud ($470,000US)
To put that into perspective, that's 10 interceptors.

$500,0000Aus?? WOW,.... There's a similar set up being sold state-side that retails for a fraction of that, but I've never seen it personally. It's supposed to be a straight bolt-on design. This one looks very rugged and apparently works really well. Looks like they borrowed heavily from the Bren Carrier and FIAT designs. I love track-layers.

Thanks John,
Who knows, but he is most likely having a dig at me.
It could just be a frustrated outburst.
Maybe Dragonforce gets annoyed when people bring something to forum that is far more interesting, than his endless posts about how accurate and fantastic his little gauges are. The same posts that infact became advertisements for his mockups.
Or then again, he could just be filling the vacuum left by dcambell007 as the forum's 'pot stirrer'?
Having said that, I did get a chuckle out of the 'half buried brick' comment. Very creative.

Back to the subject......
I understand there are a lot of these in the states, they run them up at Yellowstone too? These are the first two to be imported here.
Dave, the hummer looks insane as hell. A truly aggressive looking machine. Do you know if that is designed for military application, or has somebody purchased an ex army hummer and done a conversion?
You would be the man on this subject (and all vehicles that are terrifying to behold) <--- insert reference to humongous machine here

Did I call anyone any names? Sorry did I mention any names? It just seemed like a bit of a wanking contest to me.
