I'm going to make several posts at once about Max's boots, but I'm going to separate them into different threads in order to keep the discussion (and future searches) better organized.
I've had a pair of MM1 and MM2 boots custom made from Russian boots. You can look here for details:

Russian boots can be had as cheap as $15 on eBay if you're lucky, and still under $100 even if you're not lucky.
I have found an excellent leather shop that can modify these boots expertly at a bargain price. And I'm willing to help some other fans get their boots done. The shop I use is not set up for internet orders (they don't even have a sign over their shop and they don't speak English well). The only way I can get these guys to mod your boots is to physically take a pair in there myself to have them modified. Each time I do this I also need to leave my accurate replicas with them as a guide. (the guide I left for my first pair of boots were Karol's real Rossis)
The good news is that I trust these guys to do great work and they're CHEAP. Modifying the MFP boots only costs $100. That's half of what I was priced at a couple of other places I went to. And if you can get the Russian boots cheap to start off with, you'll end up with a pair of very inexpensive replicas that will look very good even next to the real thing.
Here's the deal - if you send me your Russian boots, I'll get them modified and then send them back to you. You pay $100 for the mods, the actual shipping costs for me to get them back to you and $15 markup for my trouble (I have to drive the boots there and pick them up, leave my own boots the whole time and then ship the package back to you). So it's $115 total plus shipping if you're interested. Payment is due before I drop the boots at the shop because these guys only deal in cash so I have to have the cash ready when I pick the boots up.
Turnaround time shouldn't be more than a month on each order. Could be sooner, shouldn't be too much longer.
That's the deal for MM1 boots. If you want MM2 boots, it costs more. That's because the boot harnesses have to be added as well as a few other mods. They charge 140 total for MM2 boots. Plus my $15 fee makes it $155 total.
(A knife sheath is not included with the MM2 boots, you'll have to get that elsewhere. The good news is I might have a line on someone else making accurate replicas of those sheaths shortly).
Contact me if you're interested or have any questions.

I've seen J's MFP boots in person and they are fantastic. (And I say this as the owner of a pair of original Rossiter's, courtesy of Karol.)
Thanks for the info; I'm definitely doing this.
