Attaching the badge

I am not at all happy with the bendy pinback fastener on the AbbyShot badge, particularly when it comes to attaching it to the AS jacket. I would prefer using screw posts, but I can't find any at my local jewelry/crafts store. Using actual screws and nuts is a bit more problematic, as it means shortening (and possibly getting stuck by) the screws. LAPD uniforms use a sort of cotter pin to attach the decorative buttons, which sounds like a good idea, but I don't know where to go for the components.

Any other ideas?
