Hi everybody,
Karol and I have made a new cast of the MM2 hydrant spanner. The previous version we had was very good and was made from a real Australian spanner, but it was not 100% screen accurate. We used the only hydrant spanner we could get at the time.
Since then, we have been fortunate to have access to several more spanners, and we have chosen the one the we feel is most like the one Max carried in the movie. The difference with this new spanner vs. the old one is that the new one is slightly shorter/smaller, has a thicker, different-shaped ring at the end and has a sharper bend in the middle. We have also changed the paint scheme a little, going with a darker gun metal color. These are very minor differences, but as you all know, we're perfectionists.
This new spanner is available NOW - but I only have a few. After that, it may be a while before we cast them again. Also, due to rising material costs, the price on this new spanner is $5 more - $35.
Note: I MAY have screen accurate leather belt pouches available to go with this spanner soon. If that happens, I'll post an announcement. (there may even be a few accurate pouches made for the OLD style spanner, for those that already own that one). The previous not-so-accurate pouch that was available on etsy.com may or may not be still available. I haven't had any communication with them. My advice at this point is to wait and see if we're able to offer the accurate pouch within the next month or so.
Here is the new spanner (it's not as shiny as it looks in this picture, and you can't see the subtle paint weathering - trust me, it looks great in real life):
If there are any of you that purchased the old spanner and want to upgrade to the new one, I will give you a $5 discount. (Also, I believe I may have one of the old spanners still around and would sell it for the original $30.)
Shipping on these items tends to be around $5 for priority mail in the U.S.
Here is a comparison pic of the old spanner vs. the new with a screenshot:
