Re: Possible MFP baton origin conformation
I'm not sure if anyone actually said the batons used in MM1 were from the UK, but we've certainly seen similar handle styles on vintage UK batons. It would make sense though that the Aussie's would use a UK style truncheon, weather they were actually imported from the UK or not.
Good eye on the Sherlock Holmes batons. Can't tell from those pics if the length is the same as Max's, but that handle does look pretty darn similar, and is in keeping with other vintage UK batons I've seen. Without having seen any vintage Oz batons, it's hard for me to know if they are the same or not.
You know who we need on this board? A veteran Australian police officer who worked in the 70s. Preferably highway patrol. I'd love to know what was really in use and what wasn't (guns, nightsticks, even some of the jargon that was used on the radio chatter). I'm sure a lot of it was made up for the movie, but it would be interesting to hear if something was based in reality. Especially for us Americans. It's really hard for us to know which things sprang from the mind of Miller and which were part of the real Australia of the late 70s.
Anyway, not to get off topic. Thanks for bringing up the batons again. I'm still looking to add a perfect one to my collection.

Re: Possible MFP baton origin conformation
Okay, this is a very uninformed question, but do cops in Australia carry guns? Or are they still mostly gun-free like in the UK?
If they do carry them, when did they start and what type of gun do they carry and what did they carry in the 70s? Was it perhaps a Smith and Wesson .357 like we suspect Max is carrying in the movie?
I'd also like to know the size of the average police duty belt in the 70s (probably the same as today). Was it/is it 1 and 3/4 inches wide like the standard in the U.S.?
What color are their badges? Silver like the U.S. (gold for detectives) or bronze like the movie?
Those were just a few questions off the top of my head.

Good find on that baton Framed.
Looks like he does custom work so he could probably do one exactly like Max's. The prices are not cheap, however maybe he could use a less expensive wood and no leather strap and knock the price down a little (it would be easy to add our own movie-style strap since it just looks like a simple thick leather lace.
