http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/16110/ ... ot-at-all-Exclusive: Gibson In "Mad Max 4"? "Not At All"
By Garth Franklin Tuesday January 19th 2010 12:43AM
While Mel Gibson didn't clearly explain his involvement in a fourth "Mad Max" at a recent press conference for "Edge of Darkness", he has given us a more definitive answer.
In his only online one-on-one interview for the film, Dark Horizons' Paul Fischer asked the actor straight out if he'd do a cameo or if director George Miller is begging him to do a cameo in the upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road".
Gibson responded: "No, not at all. We’ve talked about it. We said – “Hey, how you doing.” You know, we’ve cleared it. It’s no biggie. No biggie. It’s his franchise. It’s his to do with as he wishes and I’m looking forward to seeing it. Good luck to him. I mean, I think he’s a genius. Everything he does, everything he turns his hand to, is somehow, extraordinary. So, I can't wait to see what he does with it"
The full interview with Gibson, including his comments on 'Edge', "The Beaver", and the DiCaprio Viking project, will go online later this week.

It's over.
I don't wanna another actor playing Max. So I just hope it's about Max's SON, or I'm out of this mess.

Context, context, context.
Q: Is George Miller is begging you to do a cameo in the upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road"
A: No, not at all.
Seriously, I'd like to know whether Mel not returning is Miller's decision alone or not. Mel makes it kinda sound like it is.

Maybe I'm wrong, perhaps I don't want to face the truth but... I DON'T believe Mel on this
I don't remember if Mel did false statements in 2002 before signing on for the part in Fury Road.

To me it's looking more like Miller's intent is to have a fresh face, maybe even a fresh character he can build a series of films around for a new generation of audience that have no sentimental attachment with Gibson. It will be in the tradition of Mad Max but I'm not sure it can be called as such without any involvement from Gibson. I will highly anticipate the film but for me it will be somewhat like the thought of Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford.

Canada.com asked Mel about Mad Max 4.
He "kind of dropped out a bit"? What does that mean? Why can't he just give a clear, definitive answer like "No, I'm not in the movie whatsoever"?
http://www.canada.com/entertainment/mov ... story.htmlQ: And what about another Mad Max with director George Miller. Have you ruled out a cameo?
A: I've talked to George, yeah. We had a good chin wag. I kind of dropped out a bit, but I can't wait to see it.

From MoviesOnline.com. Apparently he hasn't ruled out a cameo.
http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_17651.htmlQ: Have you talked to George Miller since?
MG: Oh yeah. I’ve talked to George. Yeah, we’ve had a good chin wag about it. We talk all the time anyway, George and I. So I’m abreast of that. I know he’s been trying to do this for years, the fourth installment. At one point, I was involved, then it fell to bits and then this and that. So now, it’s probably gone through a lot of changes. I can’t wait to see it because everything he does I think is magic. There’s a touch of genius, more than a touch of genius about George. Probably most of any good trick I’ve ever learned, I’ve learned off that guy and Peter Weir.
Q: Have you ruled out a cameo in Mad Max 4?
MG: No. We’ve just talked. I honestly don’t know.

Er.... is it just me or are Mels answers more or less the same all the time??? I think i've seen plenty of other quotes which went like " Oh yea I've talked to George. We had a good chinwag..."Gibson responded: "No, not at all. We’ve talked about it. We said – “Hey, how you doing.” You know, we’ve cleared it.
We are 100% snafu....

Wow, Gibson really is a poor communicator. I'm left so confused trying to interpret his comments.
This doesn't seem any more of 'The Final Word' than any of his other interviews. Just more odd evasive language.
He keeps declaring what great faith he has in Miller and what a genius the man is. He says the new film will be great, but he hasn't signed on. He says he's too old for the action in MM (ie. driving a car through the desert) but he does a new action film (Edge of Darkness). The guy's confusing as hell.
Ultimately for me, if Gibson has nothing to with this project, I've lost loads of respect for the guy for the guy as an actor.

What the fuck is a "chin wag"?
Let's face it, Mel boiled down his own brain some time ago, he stepped into the nuts realm for good.
I've not enterely lost respect for him JUST because he still recognizes the (cosmic) genius of Miller.
