''THE ROAD''

[Bad cop]

I had the pleasure of seeing ''The Road'' with two of my friends at our local Independent film theater. I have to say it is a very great film and realistically shows what the world would probably be like. As good as it was it was very depressing to watch. What also made it cool was that parts of it were shot in my home state : Oregon. I highly recommend it. Based on all the films I've seen this year it seems that Hollywood is returning to good films. Other good films I've seen this year include:

Inglorious Basterds
Pandorum
The Hurt Locker
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
Terminator: Salvation

Moon
I still have yet to see James Cameron's Avatar

Still waiting for release of The Road here, lifelong disciple of Cormac McCarthy. Didn`t think the filming of No Country for Old Man matched the book too well, hope it`s better with The Road...

I read the book upon which this movie is based, and I must say it was more than just depressing: It was horrifying, and not in a fun way. Certainly an excellent, deeply moving book, but also a hard book to read if one is easily disturbed. From what I've heard, the film is even more disturbing.

I find it interesting to juxtapose The Road with The Road Warrior. It's like the author was saying, "Here's how it would really be: No high-speed chases, no epic battles... just a road and very little else, other than heartbreaking acts of desperation committed by people in a world where there's nothing left to eat, much less drive.

Wow! This movie was sooo freaking depressing and terrifying! Hate to say this but its probably allot more realistic than the MM series. However you have to understand that the sun was blocked out in this scenario. Makes for a lifeless world. Im gonna be messed up for weeks. That basement scene was freaking scary.

I loved the book, but in the book a big part of how the man and the boy survived was the man's 'handiness'. He knew how to repair what equipment they had and how to find food. He also knew quite a bit about first aid. Those skills really set him apart and were a big reason why they survived for as long as they did and as well as they did.

But in the movie, it seems that everything the man does comes by luck. He's just bumbling around like everyone else. I didn't like that part of the movie.

Also, they left out some of the more disturbing parts of the book.

But overall, I liked the movie. It hit the post-apocalyptic bullseye.

not seen the movie, but in the book, the final scenes with the old man pointed out that they survived more from luck than anything else. He did do some rather silly things.

However the final passages with the trout and their maps of scales was just plane weird.

Trout? Maps of scales? I don't remember that at all, and I gave my copy of the book to somebody, so I can't refresh my memory. Could you please remind me what these things were?

To those who haven't read the book and aren't familiar with the film, you might get the idea from looking at this pic that The Road might have some Road Warrior type action. It doesn't.
