When is a Ford not a Ford?
When is a Ford not a Ford?
When someone assumes, for years, that the Interceptor was an American Motors AMX....not an entirely
unreasonable guess? Didn't they sell plenty of cars in Australia?

It is an entirely unreasonable guess.
I guess Chrysler being owned by germans and now Italians makes all chryslers foreign cars now.
Please go and read the forums and even some of the pages hanging off peters website before coming here and asking idiotic questions. Theres been a spate of these morons recently, and im not sure if its the same person trolling.

Re: When is a Ford not a Ford?
AMX didnt sell cars here.... or build them here.
And the fact its a right hand drive car didnt click? And that cars drove on the left hand side of the road, not the right?
The world is a big place and most countries build and design their own cars.
Ford has factories all over the world building locally designed cars.
Why would anyone assume its an American car?

Re: When is a Ford not a Ford?
Because like my Father and I we just dident think about Muscle cars being made in other countries. But i have always somehow knew the cars were Fords but i just couldent figuer out what they did to them! LOL My Dad had thought too the bOb was an AMX of some sort. But with the fact that back in the day on a small 20 something inch Tv and VHS movie rental quality you kinda have to forgive the mistake LOL.

The relay for the reminder light is on the steering colum from memory?
Mine works so I have no need to know where it is until it stops working....
Most builders don't used GT bodies (Ithink only 2 replicas out there are real GTs) so no one bothers to fit traction bars, least of all a 9inch Diff, unless they really plan to have a high output engine. And considering how expensive fuel is here I dont think many will bother to go down that path.
A lot of owners out there are only interested in the "MadMax" look of things and not mechanics as such either.
I only know of a few out there who do have a background as a mechanic / panel beater.

There were a number of AMC Javelins imported, converted to right hand drive using postal Jeep parts, and sold in Oz under the banner of "Australian Motor Corporation."roadwarriormfp wrote:AMX didnt sell cars here.... or build them here.
That said, I really don't see much similarity between the XB & the Javelin/AMX.

They were imported in "kit" form by "Australian Motor Industries" and sold under the "Rambler" name .... and less then 280 were sold over a the 4 yr period they were available from 1968 to 1972.Foxtrot X-Ray wrote:There were a number of AMC Javelins imported, converted to right hand drive using postal Jeep parts, and sold in Oz under the banner of "Australian Motor Corporation."roadwarriormfp wrote:AMX didnt sell cars here.... or build them here.

Re: When is a Ford not a Ford?
Considering the low numbers and the conversion to RHD, they would have to be the most rarest muscle cars in Australia?
I have seen 2 or 3 here in town (4 door sedans) but have never come across any coupes.

Re: When is a Ford not a Ford?
Ive seen quite a few hornets over the years, perhaps 40 or so. Ive also seen 3 or 4 Javelin coupes. Ive seen 5 or 6 of the larger 4 door fairlane sized cars. They were all called Ramblers.
The Hornets were popular cars in the 80's as they were easily re-engined, usually with 351c's. the flared guards were also pretty cool.
You dont see too many these days, i go to a lot of car shows and rarely see them.
I was also at pomona a few months ago, and didnt see any. Scarce in Oz, scarce in teh US.
