Last of the V-8's

Post by Road Samurai »

I asked this on DanMan's board, but i don't think i ever asked this question here: How does the parapalegic mechanic in MM2 know that Max's car is the last of v-8 interceptors? I mean, his car could very well have been the first constructed (though it wasn't) so how can he POSSIBLY know that Max's was the last? Maybe there was a plaque just beside the booby trap saying: "This be Last of V-8 Interceptors, thou art, i say." It just strikes me as odd, and i think it will provoke some good discussion. Talk amongst yourselves now...

I guess he assumed the car was the last. There were only a few made and they were most likely long gone by that point, so he guessed that Max's was the last. Maybe since he was a mechnic he knew about the production of the cars and which pursuit car was the last one made. That's kind of a long shot but maybe. Also, in the book I don't know if ever says last of the V8s, actually I remember he calls it a pursuit special, but I don't know if says that it waas the last. MAybe they just put it in the movie to emphasize how awesome the car really was. Enough rambling, I'll go now.

I believe that he meant the vehicle was one of the last Interceptors of its kind. Not "the " last Interceptor.

Yeah it wasnt THE last V8 but but was AMONG the last of the V8's.

I would assume that being a mechanic and not being to far off Max's age that he would have a genuine interest in cars and be pretty cluey on the subject

Okay, this is my take on that... Barry in MM1 also calls the Interceptor, the last of the V8's too... which, considering the times and all, with the fuel crisis starting in that movie, and production of such cars stopping, that particular pursuit specials was the last model year produced, as in no more are being made... hope this helps... see ya on the road

"Last of the V8 Interceptors. Piece of history." I would assume

that our mechanic friend was a former MFP mechanic, or perhaps a

designer of speed parts and fight parts for MFP vehicles. As such,

he would have had knowledge of the construction of the Last

of the V8's, and would have been very familiar with its

design, up to and including the booby trap, installed at the

MFP motorpool to prevent another Sun City-type incident. If nothing

else, he was the ultimate gearhead, and anything as

significant as the Last of the V8 interceptors, he'd know

about.

If YOU were running the MFP would you install a bomb as a safety device? I think a simple ignition cut out would be far more effective?

No "collateral damage" and no damage to an expensive piece of police equipment.

I had always assumed that the car is a custom, one of a kind Pursuit/Intercept Special.

Built to end the vehicle line with a bang. (The rest were just regular 351 2 or 4 door Falcons,

maybe)

Maybe she WAS the last one built, and (being a custom) very recognizable to underground

& police mechanics (and car enthusiasts) as THAT car. "The one that mad Bronze stole from

the MFP garage."
