I made my own custom shouldercaps for my southbeach leathers jacket.
the jacket was comming on my request without the lame leather pads they are making for the jacket so i decided to make my own.
here are some pics.
i will post some pics of the jacket complete when i got my bades fixed with earth magnets.
Perfect! Now someone please remind me (too late) why the AbbyShot is considered the better jacket. I mean, if you buy both from SBL it's a good bet you'll end up with matching leather for the pants and jacket.
Well, you won't necessarily get matching leather if you buy southbeach's pants and jacket. I've bout two pairs of pants from them and two jackets and the leather on all of them is slightly different. They don't really have strict quality control. And not everyone wants to have to make their own plastic shoulder caps and rivet them on since it's kind of a pain (but I made some of course).
The Abbyshot jacket is really soft, broken-in leather, suitable for really riding a motorcycle. The Southbeach jacket is good quality leather, but not as nice (though that doesn't necessarily mean one looks more accurate than the other since the real ones are vinyl). Once nice advantage I've noticed about the Southbeach jacket is that mine has a tapered fit rather than the flared fit of the Abbyshot.
I suppose Karol might want to think about making some replica shoulder caps. There certainly seems to be a market for them.
As for mine, I used a method Karol shared with me (from another fan who I'm not sure is on this board yet) of using an old plastic baseball helmet and cutting it with a jigsaw (after tracing it with a template). Not totally perfect, but should look VERY close to the Abbyshot ones when I'm done. Assuming the Abbyshot caps are very accurate, fan-made caps should be a 5"x7" oval shape.
The Southbeach jackets come with incorrect round leather shoulder caps. They look okay from a distance, but they're not plastic like the ones from the movie. A few people would like to be able to switch the Southbeach caps with plastic ones (the Abbyshot jacket already comes with correct plastic shoulder caps).
for the people i can help out with the caps let me know so i can consider doing a run of them for you guys.
i can put them on the jacket also,it was pretty hard to put them in position and not to screw up the lining with the rivets inside. also be sure to order the SB jacket without the leather caps! http://www.framedprops.com
You should consider doing a run of caps. I think a lot of people would be interested for the right price. Shame about the shipping from Europe though (for those of us in the States). Then again, they're pretty light so maybe it wouldn't be too bad.
Could you make them in a 5inch x7 inch oval shape? That's what the abbyshot ones are.
