Life in Australia

I was born and raised and lived all my life here in Texas. I was wondering what life was like down under. It seems like most folks there would be alot like people here. Car shows, BBQ's, beer.... Has anyone here been to the US and Australia and can tell me about how they are similar and different? I would love to travel to Australia someday.

let me put my 2cents worth to this my good man ,i was born in bordertown ,not bartertown!!! ,in south australia moved to adelaide when i was 3 ,so im a aussi .been to the states twice due to go again in a little over a year(woohoo cant wait) .life in australia is frigen tops!!! ,great place to live ,people are layed back and for the most just like you guys,most people treat each other with respect and expect the same(dont worry we have our share of morons) ,a typical week for me , would be work 5days, 3nights a week take my kids to soccor ,tennis, music,a typical weekend is soccor and tenis on saturday ,doing work around the house on sunday,plus a fare bit of cruzing ,meeting up with some family or other car nuts and talk crap oh and drinking ,the weather in adelaide is great doesnt snow can be stinking hot in summer but its a dry heat witch im use to and find great,we also do a bit of dirt bike rideing when we find time ,the cost of living is ,well i think good compaired to some other places,petrol today on the way to work was$1.25 per ;litre.
i think were pretty similar in a lot of ways,the amount of people living in america was mind blowing ,any way i better go do some work cheers pat

I've stopped in Bordertown a few times on the way to Adelaide from Melbourne!





I go to Melbourne usually once a year, sometimes twice and have stayed anywhere from 1 month to 3 months.. I am leaving in 2 days actually to head there again !
I like it there...as said ,it is similar in alot of ways, but different too. Guess the differences is what makes it a cool place to visit for a while at a time.

Thanks! I don't normally go to Adelaide, but for a few years I was out there in February for some car shows.. (was the All American Day and the Cadillac RoundUp ? ) a few of us went went across from Melbourne..mainly in Camaros and the Corvette one year

Stayed in Glen Elg ? If my memory is right..haven't been now in a few years over that way..nice place though !

All ready to leave tomorrow night for Melbourne again..bags are packed and got a bunch of parts to bring over, ha ha..

So if a Yank wanted to visit Australia and see what best depicts normal Australian life where would you suggest I visit? Where should I stay away from?

I always go to the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.... my buddy I work with is there, so that is where I go of course but it's a great car area around there and in driving around alot in that general side of town (compared to the city) I think you get a good feel for things. And only a little bit of a drive into the 'country' lets say...up towards Yarra Glen, etc (cool car swap meet up there) and been over to Balarat a ton of times too..nice couple hour drive out that way. (been driving around a bunch of other areas too of course there as well..)

I guess who ever you ask will have areas they like..but that is what I reckon at least.

And you never know where you might find a 'local' over there... I remember a few years ago I was at Balarat swap meet..sitting at our site..taking a break from walking the aisles looking for bits, and I heard a familiar sounding accent turned out the guy in the site behind us (and over one) was over visiting from San Jose in NorCal !

A few years before that, I was pricing up some Charger bit at Yarra Glen swap meet, and the guy asked "if I was that guy in California who had all the Oz Chargers" Said he had read something I had written online some where...and guess it might have been me since he never heard another Yanky accent before, lol..
