Temporary Bye.

Post by Foxtrot X-Ray »

Moving to new digs this week.
Also going to go with a new ISP. Bundling 'Net, Landline & TV... Save some Dough.
So I'll be offline for a bit when we make the changeover.. Not sure how long.

Behave yourselves while I'm Gone, OK?

Sorry... haven't been here in a while, otherwise I'd have wished you luck with that.

Hope it went smoothly.

Sorry, Foxtrot--this is the first time I read your posts. I don't get here often, when I do I tend to zero on just a couple threads. Glad your move went well.
You say you're bundling phone, internet, and TV into one--are you going with the Evil Empire, Comcast?
(We use them for TV and internet with no problems, I'm just reluctant to depend on the cable company and electricity for phone service.)

An Evil Empire, yes, but not Comcast.

Just got tired of the expense... this is much cheaper than the alternatives.
As for the landline, in the last two years the ONLY times the landline rang in was telemarketers violating the Do-not-call list (And getting threatened) And the only time it dialed out was for Dial-up internet.

Do you use your cell phone as your home phone, Foxtrot? I might be doing that soon. Maybe it's just "traditional irrationality" (I should copyright that phrase--I just made it up, but it sounds good; something you do, not because it makes sense, but because it's just how it's always been, and you're reluctant to change it), but the landline thing hasn't been that much of a lifesaver here, either.
Would the other Evil Empire's initials be a, t, and t ?

Mrs X-Ray, her daughter & I all carry Cell Phones.
I was reluctant to carry one, but it's proved itself useful

Our Cable bundle has high speed internet, basic cable & a landline phone.
Don't have much USE for the land line, but it's probably good to have a backup.

I might look into that, I guess I could use the cells for any emergency where the actual phone service goes out.

At least you had an open mind. I had my doubts about actually paying money for a cell phone service, but they are useful, not just in a pinch, but calling back and forth to the missus and what have you; even if it's just to let each other know where you are at any given time, should you pick anything up at the store, etc. Quite handy.
I have a friend, no luddite by any stretch (he's got a Master's degree in computer science for Gawd's sake) who just refuses to go the cell phone route. He also feels any Star Trek series after the original is just a bastardized marketing grab. That tells you pretty much about where he comes from, I'm sure you know the type
If you agree with him on Trek, however, well, no offense... :)

I use my Cell for an alarm clock, notepad, sound recorder, digital camera, calculator, datebook and even a Pizza timer.
(Oh, and an actual PHONE from time to time)

Not sure Open Minded is the right term, though... I was pretty much FORCED to carry one.
Wives insist on you being contactable when they're six months or more pregnant.
