The Classic Aussie Movie Collection

Post by scottyoz »

Being advertised on tv here atm, is a fortnightly dvd release "The Classic Australian Movie Collection". Mad Max is featured in the commercial, and I gather it will be one of the releases eventually. Here's the site link:

Guzzolene, where did you grab Chain Reaction from? Have not seen this one about on DVD before.

There's a few DVDs in this collection I'd be interesting in getting, but at 60 DVDs times $20 each, I won't be subscribing for the whole lot ($1200!) - I already have a bunch of the important ones, and don't care about some of the others. Would prefer to just buy the ones I want in store, but not sure where to look.

You need to add 'Stone' to this list mate .... but being from the US, you have probably never heard of it ?

Peter Weir was filming 'The Cars That Ate Paris' during 1973, at the same time Sandy Harbutt was filming 'Stone' in Sydney. TCTAP was being filmed up behind the Blue Mountains, a short-ish drive away from Sydney, and Weir and Harbutt would go halves in the cost of a small charter plane to get stunt men backwards and forwards between each movie set !! Unlike 'Stone', TCTAP was actually a stepping-stone for Peter Weir to an incredible career. Sandy Harbutt has never made another movie since Stone.... :(

The magic of combining the 'youth gone wild / world gone mad' car-based theme of TCTAP, with the 'untamed bikers take over the world' theme of Stone......set the ball rolling for Mad Max. Even George Kennedy acknowledged this at the time MM was made...

8-)

I have heard of STONE, I just haven't seen it. There is a huge video store in Porland OR that has every movie ever made,I saw STONE there on VHS,but didn't rent it. Is there a region free I can buy somewhere?

i found my copy of "The Chain Reaction" at a pawn shop for $2.00 u.s.... Mel's in that movie for only about 2 seconds but it's HIS face on the cover of the case. With his name in HUGE letters... Go figure.. Almost gave it away to an old , long gone, member of this forum ("TheGirlforGoose") because she had a thing for Bisley and it showed his bare arse in one scene..
