I'm looking for other people out there that are willing to build their own form of Mad Max inspired car. I had this idea in the back of my head for a very long time now (Before I got my drivers license) and about a year ago I came across a guy at a local area Houston autoparts store which had converted his 1980's Mercedes Diesel sedan into a tube framed roof with spot lights everywhere, storage for fuel and many other supplies, he had also armored the exterior of his Mercedes with strong steel structures. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of it.


So this leads me onto my idea of building someting simular. Unfortunatly my car will not be built for high speed like the Interceptor, however it will be built with surviving in mind. I have all of the skills and tools to modify a car. My back up car, 1988 Honda Civic Sedan, is now no longer needed with my two classic Volkswagen Beetle's in service.

I'll make a list here of my ideas for the Civic.

-Partial roll cage inside of the car (as strong as I can make it without making it a inconvience for the driver and passenger to exit)I also want to incorporate a unfolding cot that goes across the passenger compartment for sleep.
-Fully caged 30+gallon fuel tank in the trunk that feeds into the stock tank. And a 10 gallon tank of water.
-Custom roof rack with 8 lights mounted in all directions.
-Relocated radiator to prevent overheating issues with a frontal impact
-Re-enforced steel bumpers in the front with springs
-External side bumpers to protect the side of the car
-Winch mounted on the rear
-Extra Battery
-Armored undercarrage to prevent drivetrain damage from terrain
-full gage set on the dash including fuel,oil temp,coolant temp, volts, tachometer, warning indicator light and buzzer of voltage drop, low oil pressure, high temperature.
- 1-2'' custom lift kit all the way around with the aid of heavy duty aftermarket suspension components and coilover helpers.
-custom exhaust that will exit infront of the rear tire and spike up simular to the interceptor
-Jackson Racing Supercharger if the price is right (this will be the last thing)
-Re enforced engine compartment for added strength.
-Acura Integra rear disc brakes for added braking ability with the added weight
-Metalic front pads with slotted rotors
-Larger capacity oil pan
-Lexan windows
-Roof ventilation
-Pre air filter filtration for dusty conditions
-snorkel with fully sealed engine from water
-Possible 4 wheel drive borrowed from a civic 4wd wagon RealTime4WD

EFwarrior, whereabouts are you from? There is a classic car cruise coming up soon around here (Detroit) that just might feature an Interceptor. You'd fit right in, I think.

Your design sounds very cool. Seems like it would fit in with any group of Road Warrior vehicles. I'd love to see some pictures as they come along. Keep us updated!

HUMVEE Driver

I live in Silicon Valley. You can throw a rock in any direction and you will hit a
shiny Beemer, lexus, or other yuppy wagon of some kind or other. AAARRrGGHHH!!!! I like to see
anything interesting or different on the road. Why not something right out of the wasteland, all armor,black paint, and road dirt ? When I have good sized garage
and a bit more cash I will drag a project car/victim inside and take a torch to it.
My current project is a 2002 Nissan Frontier ("Navara" in Australia). What I have in mind for it is subtle and hard to explain in words. Since it is a "Ute" that is the theme I am going with. I will post some pics when I am a bit farther along.
It sounds like you have done some serious research on survivalist vehicle construction. I remember seeing some info on that subject in some survivalist
mags back in the day. The idea being you may have to drive through some very
VERY bad neighborhoods after Doomsday and you need just the right vehicle
to make the trip in style. I will keep an eye out for any info.

There is a reason why all the vehicles in the wasteland are old v8's. They got the torque and power to lug around massive weight. An anemic 4 banger just lacks low down grunt. Plus, can you fix a broken computer in the wastelands? (learning to) Rebuild a carb is far easier than trying to find an ecu for your engine management system.

But naturally, it's from a mad max world perspective. In the real world it is fine. Just don't make it to heavy. Like I said, you only got a little 4 banger to work with. Good choice on the supercharger. You'll have far more use for low down torque than peak horsepower where you are going!

A susuki 4x4 under body with hond on top I have seen this done with a escort ..
There is some place in QLD that will do anything for you to make it 4x4 my mate has a torana gtr that was done there..
