Theres plenty of reasons why the prices have gone up....
Shannons auctions, eBay, and the fact that people now suddenly see these cars as an investment, not a "big boys toy".
People are buying them not to drive... but because they see the prices going up and up.
This creates a demand for the product... and hence more and more people buy them.... the price goes up again..... bit like the housing "boom"
10yrs ago a XA sedan was worthless... you couldnt give it away... much like a XB sedan..... now try and get one for $500 !

Too Much...
People are paying prices that are too high, just because they can. The regular joe will get screwed over, seeing a "rich boy" outbid him by eons. Yes, I am one of those regular Joe's, and therefore I complain about it. If I had money to burn I would most likely be one of the asshats buying stuff for way to much money. In the end it's all about the haves and have-nots...
We will see where this goes, if it's even possible to get a max replica a few years down the line for a decent amount of coin.

i can't believe you can barely get a rolling rust hulk for less than four grand. some people are delusional...
if you want an idea of what to pay for a rolling XA/XB shell, take a look at ebay or other auction site, but be prepared to stare in awe at the number of zeros they put on the price tag.

I reckon you got a bargain, Doug, don't you? Your's had a motor and everything! hehe.
I actually paid more for my old XE Fairmont Station Wagon than you paid for your coupe. Times have changed.

Apparently it is cashed-up 'baby-boomer' generation (born 1946-1962) behind the exhorbitant pricing of Oz muscle cars at the moment...their homes are payed up, the kids have left home, they have multiple investments, have high income jobs and money to burn and are on a first name basis with the bank! The fact that they grew up with Bathurst and their favourite muscle cars on TV and only now can afford what they wanted as a kid, they will pay anything for them. I'm just an average joe, if one of them want my car they'll be trading their house, boat and (younger) wife for it

The only reason I would ask for so much would be I'd need that to buy another one down the track :S
