New 1/18 scale

Post by Gordon Hayes »

Seeing how it will most likely only be once in life that we get a car we actually built turned into a model I have decided to pass along a few photos of the model mailed (pre-market release) directly to us from Autoart, if nothing else we did manage one single free Model !

So no comback to the board for me.. just this one single issue drop in.

The model is correct with the silver blower after all.... those who do not know seem to think that the blower should be shiny polish finish... nope... in the filming of Max 2 the polished blower reflected the sunlight and flared the image on camera, for this reason they (film crew) sprayed the blower silver to dull it off a bit, so in the end that is why our blower looks painted !!!
Autoart have replicated the actual incorrect steel and alloy drink that I added can dating from about the mid 1980s, the correct can was a 1970's "pop top can". As you will know from our page http://www.lastinterceptor.com/lastinte ... today.html (page 7) we put quite a lot of gear into the replica, with my model I am attempting to re-add a lot of this gear as minature into the 1/18th model.

The model fails in the roof spoiler area as a result of Autoart deciding to not recaste the existing coupe body shell, and instead opting instead for add on flares and roof spoiler, the roof spoiler is kinda the wrong shape as well.
We were not involved in the construction of the Autoart model at all or at any stage we we never got any say it what happened. Interesting that for safety sake I elected to chain down the rear tyre and the model also has the chain attached to the tyre.
Note also that we copied the car with the wipers on, not the wipers off copy car.
So our luggage rack is set further back than the film clone car, This further back setting of the "Real" car can be checked with the film shot of Bruce Spence when chained into the car.

When you get your models if you have acess to a HUGE magnifing glass read the ID tag we placed onto the Replica's rocker covers, the word "replica" can be seen with the naked eye...

Hope the pictures come out !

That model really looks awesome. Look at those details  That's an absolute job-well-done 8-)
But it is not entirely movie correct. Where's the dirt? :ugeek:
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

I can't imagine what it is like to have a car you built used as the reference for a diecast model. That's gotta be too cool.

Even with a crappy phone camera it still looks like its running at 240 kmph. The detail is awesome.

Thanks for loading those pictures for me Bart.

Moldel owners will also note that our replica and so the Auto Art model uses the Scott Injector hat rather than the movie prop mock-up blower scoop. The Max 2 scoop was perhaps intended by the prop makers to look like a scott hat. Now that the car has been modelled I am actually glad that we used the Scott hat.. I made a few fibreglass hats that I later intended to have cast, but nothing looked as good as the genuine Scott hat so at the last minute I switched to the Scott item, it might not be 100% film correct but I am sure that the film makers wanted the real thing but just found it bloody hard to make! And settled for the mock-up that in the end was not correct to that immortal first film Pursuit special - Intercetor look.
Personally I reckon that the Scott Injector hat is the finest and most agressive blower hat ever designed and it looks so correct on the model, not quite Max 2 film correct but what the hell... it is Interceptor correct and so much better looking.
I also need to add that the model is much better looking in real life, not sure why but in the flesh "the Road Warrior" does look just like a small car, the model in real life seems to remove any of that "only a model" bulky look that seems to exist in some of my photo's.
So if you like the "Road Warrior" in the photo's you can really look forward to the real life model, it sure looks better than in the pictures.
Can't wait to see how you guys diaroma the model, so if you can please send me pictures as you create the worlds for the replica to be displayed in.

Ok thats it from me... it is now "back to the void where I came from".

Best regards to all.
