Almost Max costume

Just wanted to share my MM2 or what’s completed so far. A local cinema needed movie characters to walk in a parade so I just had to volunteer. Still saving up for the boots and lots of minor mods need done here and there. But it over all I’m happy with it so far.

Wow, great work! Especially the knee brace. I see that you made it out of the tailgate hinges, very cool. What did you use for the kneepad? I've been looking for something like that for a long time.

Trust me HUMVEE Driver I know all about your web site in fact I have many photos hanging in my garage to use as reference. So thanks for posting them! You did a great job.

The kneepad did come out much better than I thought it would. I’ll do my best to explain how I did it. I’ll post some photos in about 4 hours when I get home from work.

The base is made of semi-ridged foam with a little heat applied to form a slight dome curve to it. Then cut strips of the same foam and glued them on to create the humps or ridges. I used PVC glue because all other glues just soaked into the foam. Cut a circle out of a plastic trash can or a plastic laundry soap bottle would work just as well. You would just need mutable strips together before attaching to the pad to get more height out of them. The foam I used is about 4 mm.

Then we found some very thin leather from an old cheap leather jacket. I simply glued it (PVC glue) to the foam pad one strip and valley at a time. The end of each raised strip was glued after the raised portions dried. I took a small metal scale and bent it to the shape of the pad and clamped both ends with small clamps.

Lastly I riveted Velcro on one side of the pad and sticky back Velcro with more of the thin leather attached to it before it was riveted on the other side. Then of course rivets all around. What I’m not sure about is how long the bond will hold. Hopefully forever.
