Chance encounter with an Interceptor

Post by RickH »

Hey dudes,

I'm up in Queensland visiting my parents for the week. Today my dad and I went for a drive up to Gympie to visit an old guy who runs a little museum full of toy cars that he's hand-made. This guy is a bit of a movie car fan, he loves the BTTF DeLorean and has models of it, and he also had a model of the Interceptor that he'd hand made from steel.

Well to my surprise he said he had a real Interceptor in his shed, so we went down to check it out. Sure enough he had a black XB coupe, with satin black GT stripes, roof spoiler, boot spoiler, blower switch (no blower), and zoomies (fake). He even had MFP decals on the front guards with "J.W. Special" written on them (JW is his initials). It was a very cool discovery. The car didn't have a nose cone on it, but it looked tough all the same. Pretty good effort for an old guy. I hope I'm still playing with cars when I'm 70 too.

I'll post some pics soon. My dad took a few happy snaps.

I suppose it is more of an "inspired" car than a replica when you place it next to cars like Adrian's and Nelson's etc, but I don't think Jim is too fussed about the details. It just looks cool, and the average punter doesn't know the difference anyway, hehe.

Yeah I'm up on holidays. Taking my leave now because i won't be here at Christmas! Going home tomorrow, then to Canberra for the weekend, then back home to Sydney, then to Melbourne next Thursday for the weekend! I lead a jet-set lifestyle Sam, lol. Places to be, people to see, ya dig? hehe.

Sweet! 8-)

It's always a treat to see any Mad Max inspired ride! Even if it isn't a movie accurate piece, you still definitely know what he was aiming for. Nice find!

Places to go.. people to see??? pffttt

You been zapped with too many volts again!??

The car looks great.... an advanced roof spoiler? and black always works best on the coupe shape.
who would think that in Gympie of all places.... lol

But then again.. the smell of coffee when the wind is just right.... is pretty good!

Looks great. Also the DeLorean. I like the BTTF movies.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.
