Police gear belt or pants belt for MFP?

Post by Rook3 »

It seems as though everyone just used the pants belt to hold their gear, be it shotgun/pistol holsters, handcuffs, etc.

Does anyone know if any of the MFP actors had any kind of duty belt instead of just the pants belt?

What do you costumers do? Go screen accurate and pants belt only, or a duty/tactical belt instead?

Thanks,

Russ

Just from memory, I don't think any of the officers had a duty belt. I know for certain that Max had his nightstick, shotgun holster, and handcuffs hanging from either his jacket or his pants belt.

However, Max did wear a shoulder holster for his revolver. It just hung from one shoulder across his back to the other shoulder. I made a custom one, and I just tuck it into my Abbyshot jacket shoulder pads and it stays there pretty good.

But then, I'm very big on being screen accurate. I don't think that anyone other than a hard core fan would notice a duty belt.

I tend to agree with Humvee. I dont think any of the MFP in the film had a duty belt.
However, I would guess it was a budget issue more than anything. The belt Max has in MM2 leads me to think they are "hinting" that they would have had one on him in the first film if it had been available. In any event it would not be a bad addition to a MFP outfit, unless you, like Humvee, want to be as "Screen Accurate" as possible.

I also agree - there was only a pants belt. When I refer to my own website (yes I do that) I find that the nightstick was just snapped into one of the side adjustment straps on the jacket. Handcuffs are also just hanging there, probably wrapped around the pants belt. http://madmaxcostumes.com/C1/mfp.htm

Yes, it was a low budget movie, but so was the MFP. They had a crappy headquarters - and Fifi really had to work the bureaucrats just to finance the Black-on-Black.

If you're going to talk hints, though, I would take the Sam Brown belt from Mad Max 2 as a hint. Max had his MFP shotgun holster on it. At least keep the mods within the trilogy. It's more believable.

Maybe someone should put together a police uniform to show what the Gayboy Berserkers (bad cops) looked like before they went bad. There's an idea.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'm torn between going "screen close" (I can't say 'accurate' because my modded jacket just Isn't 100% accurate...) and what I feel they should have used (IE: The Sam Brown or similar period belt).

How would one make up an accurate GB Berserker guide showing what they looked like before... if we never see it? :)

Perhaps somone could base such a guide on what the Australian Police actually used for gear back in the late
1970s-early 1980s? But since the film takes place "A few years from now..." that leaves a lot or room for
interpretation. :)
