If it is genuine.... its very sad to see the way it is.....

Sad state of affairs, that is. Sadder still is someone out there will shell out the cash for that stripped out shell.

With some good metal work, A healthy engine, some interior work, alot of time and money, the XB could get a new lease on life. Wether its made into a BoB, or just restored original. Either way is better than where it is now!

Looks like a rebody waiting to happen... buy that, add one good shape 6 cyl coupe and presto.. :shock: (and the guy already has the body tags off it.. :lol: )

Would be a serious undertaking for sure. But anything's better than the crusher! How much would something like that realistically go for?

similar shape non GT cars have been going for $2,000-$3,000 AU or so. I guess if it is a GENUINE GT, it might be worth the current high bid (if you have the time and resources to rebuild) as Genuine GTs in top shape are getting up near $40,000 AU. It would be a labor of love for sure, but a perfect canidate for a full Mad Max kit (full fiberglass guards, bonnet nosceone etc) as that would save having to get the sheetmetaal, and the work of faring in the arches etc. Damaged roof sounds like a good canidate for a roof spoiler as well.

But you know what's most likely going to happen...said GT is bought as well as a cheap Fairmont or Falcon 500 in good condition and the said plates are riveted in and the top of the shock tower VIN is welded in the Fairmont/Falcon and poof...genuine GT...if they equip it like the plates...and there's $10,oooAU profit when they're done.

I personally know of an XB GT sedan which is in VERY similar condition to this coupe, and changed hands last week for 10k.
It had no engine or trans, and was not really one of those "sought after" combinations - it was Sandstone Beige, Parchment trim, auto.
With the current market situation, people seem to be prepared to spend that sort of dollar figure purely for a set of I.D. plates and a shock tower. ...not my thing, and a lot of work ahead! ....and I personally can't see the value.
....but, at the end of the day, the market is dictating somewhat ridiculous prices - and anything is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay. Good luck to the seller, good luck to the new owner. Nobody is sticking a gun to anyone's head and demanding that they pay the prices they do.
Regardless of an opinion either way as to things being "bargains" or "overpriced", it IS a very exciting market to watch at the moment, and speaking as one who has just had a dip in both the buying and selling pools, it's fun to be a part of!
There seems to be a "fresh" element in the Muscle car/collectable vehicle market - people who wouldn't normally have ANY interest are suddenly realising that a motorised investment makes good sense for a lot of reasons.
