a "cut-and-paste" from an email I got....

To those of you not familiar with Jo Arpaio, He is the Maricopa County Sheriff (Arizona) and he keeps getting elected over and over again.


These are some of the reasons why:


Sheriff Jo Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars of another expensive prison complex.


He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.


He banned smoking and porno magazines in the jails, and took away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but the "PG" movies. He says: "They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave."


He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money. He then started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.


He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied: "so these morons will know how hot it's going to be while they are working on my chain gangs."


He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, then don't come back!"


He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.



With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd), the Associated Press reports: About 2000 inmates living in a barbed-wire -surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees. "This is hell. It feels like we are living in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2 years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."


Jo Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic, "Criminals should be punished for their crimes, not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."




Wednesday he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: "It's between 120 and 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your God-damned mouths!"


Way to go, Sheriff!




If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces. Sheriff Jo was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

And then you go take a look at those prisons outside of the US and then this suddenly sounds like paradise...


If this is inhumane, what is a cell in Mexico? I seriously think it's a privilege to be in any western countries prison cell. So those convicts better shut up and think about the things they did to land themselves in that place in the first place!

Where's the ballot to elect him for president?

Actually read this story quite a few years ago.. they even did a story on him and played it on Australian TV a couple of years back.


I daresay anyone caught in that county will THINK again before they commit another crime!


GOOD ON HIM I SAY!

My friends, this is just a fraction of the positive impact of America's toughest Sheriff. He also put them back into black and white stripes so they LOOK like prisoners. The pink underwear was because they would steal them when the leave. If rearrested with pink underwear on they get another charge for stealing county property.The women inmates are the ones who demanded a women's chain gang. Anything to get out of old canvas army tent's in 110+ degrees. The tents were put up because the bureaucrats would not shell out the money for bigger jails. So he got surplus tents and made a compound.


There was a problem with inmates throwing piss and sh*t on the guards so for those he took away food trays and cups they were using. They get a loaf of bread once a day which contains hamburger, vegetables, etc to meet the daily nutrition requirements. If they need a drink they can cup their hand and get it out of the sink. His quote:" If their gonna act like animals, we're gonna treat them like animals."


Interesting to note that no matter how much the bleeding hearts complain about his tactics, no one ever seems to run against him!

They might end up in one of his chaingangs...hehehe.

I'm with Bronze21 on this one, even though I'm englsih and living in France, where do I sign up to get him elected for the next US President?

I laughed out loud about the chain gangs for women bit, he did that so as not to get sued. Great thinking too! Why should female offenders be treated any softer?


Britian is currently experiencing a massive overcrowding in jails. Just last month a judge sent a known "p'd'phile" (I didn't want to type it in case it pops up in a net search) home instead of being held in custody until his trial all because the jails are so over crowded the judge thought they'd be no room for him. So he got sent home... he lives 50 yards from a primary school. The judge was not available for a comment on the matter. Proabably too pissed on the Gin he glugged during the actual hearing.


A tent prison in mid winter sounds like a great idea as a deterrant too.

Arizona still has a bit of the wild west in it. Sure would have a hard time doing this stuff in Kalifornia or NY (although Texas would probably make him a saint!). He repeatedly has stated that he has no political aspirations. He knows the "politics" of a higher office would not allow him to do what he does. I would love to see him in charge of federal prisons. Can you imagine him doing that with Club Fed?


He has been criticized for "wasting" money on his kevlar reinforced bullet proof glass equipped Crown Vic. With the gang bangers, wetbacks, and Hells Angles that have been through his facilities it's a justified expense.








To me he lives up to the reputation of an Arizona Sheriff. A hero with a badge standing up against the roughens of the West.

Arizona sheriff...or the original Texas Rangers and Roughriders.

So I guess that Guantanamo terrorist prison camp isn't really so bad after all. I would be feeding those murderers pork three times a day. Eat pork or die. thats all we have, pork. thats what we eat over hear is what I would tell them. LOL
