Gibson talks Mad max4!!!!
DECEMBER 15th 2006.
Gibson on lethal wepon 5 and another mad max. available @ ign.com
I just posted the part of the interview that he talks about a mm 4.
IGN: When you say you aren't especially interested in doing some of these franchise films, is it more a product of feeling they won't challenge you any more?
Gibson: Boy, we did four of them, dude (laughs). I mean, it's kind of like we've done it.
IGN: Well, is there a film or film series you would like to revisit for a sequel or follow-up?
Gibson: Well, I always felt those Road Warrior movies were pretty cool, like they were in-the-gutter comic book stuff. It was like really pretty exciting stuff. I don't know. We began to mount one; it was a terrific idea that George Miller had and, boy, it was prohibitively expensive. But maybe there will be a time and place where that won't be the case. I don't know.
Is there some hope after all?
Rick

Man, I hope so. I have hope.
But the prohibitive part is the Mad Max timline. I mean, they can make Mel look a few years younger, but the man is like 55. There is only so much they can do. That in itself is not a big deal, the part I worry about is the vehicles in the movie. As time progresses, vehicles age and die or become so unrecognizable that you don't know what they once used to be, such as the vehicles in Thunderdome. The thrills for me are the modern vehicles modified for battle on the roads, like the weapons mounted in the beds of pickup trucks or in the trucks/boots of cars. Or the armored Mack. If there is a MM4 but there aren't these kinds of vehicles, I'm going to be disappointed. But still happy to have a MM4.

Loser.
You keep waiting, but the trees are never going to hug back.
Who said anything about MM4 being about humanity anyway?

I am sure there will be nothing remotely human about "Fury" so I guess you win this once.

Mel is 50, at 50 he is fine to act as Mad Max, hell I think Arnold was 57 almost 58 in T3...
They do not need youth exclusively, an intellegent script will do.
When Miller says he wants a younger - hungry actor for Max... he might mean a "cheaper " actor.
Yea Mel needs to loose his gut.. and get in shape, the big problem is that he does not particulary want to... Mel Gibson just don't need Mad Max.. If Mel had the passion for Mad MAX he would do it for almost nothing, and hell HE would own the Interceptor from the films, it would be parked in a garage at Malibu ... I think Mel is perhaps beyond money in his work today, he is more at the point of wanting movie sucess to justify his beliefs, or support his theories.
He has more money than he could ever spend.... so now I think Mel Gibson works for fun (for passion).
I might just be talking sh*t.... but it almost makes scence.
Cheers

If Stalone can come back with Rocky one more time, I have no problem with Mel coming back as Max. Gordon has a valid point, Mel needs to want it. It has to be for the love of the roll. It's not just a paycheck.

Miller is the one talking sh*t by making it seem he had any say in Gibson refusing the role.

I agree with Gordon, If Mel wanted it, Mel would have it. He'd just buy the rights off George and go make the damn thing himself. I reckon Mel's kind of outgrown the Mad Max thing in so far as now he's just doing what he wants to do. Making the films he wants to make- as a producer or director and only acting when he feels it's right. Sure, he might think it'd be neat to revisit the role coz those films were cool, but I don't think he's all that passionate about it. Then again, it could all just be a ruse to throw us all off the scent- these are both intelligent men we're talking about after all, and at least one of them is a damn fine actor!

That is quite a positive interview, and here I hear George Miller suggest that Mel wants to concentrate on Directing movies. George obviosuly needs to discuss with Mel about it
. Good to see Mel actually may still be interested, despite his age.
On the side of George, he apparently wants to do another smaller independent movie and after that he may do Mad Max 4. So MM4 will definately not be his next movie, but it should likely be the one after.
BTW It's unlikely Mel would ever buy the rights off George for a number of reasons. It's these movies which launched Mel Gibson to the world. The primary reason though is it's George's baby, and George is behind this 4th one and is making it happen. This isn't like Basic Instinct 2 or whatever :p .
