OK guys,
Here's a tentative plan for a pretty good sized Mad Max gathering.
Around Labor Day 2007 the North American Science Fiction Convention will be held in St. Louis, MO. Actually, right across the river, but close enough. It's a pretty big shindig, with lots to do. I was thinkin' , since I'm in charge of Special Events, that I'd invite several Mad Max related guests and have a Mad Max mini-event within the framework of the convention itself.
Tentative ideas:
- Invite Vernon Wells and Virginia Hey as guests. They could do signings and whatnot. Perhaps other stars?
Invite Mad Max replica owners to bring their cars for a group event/car show. Also would include any/all Aussie cars and Road Warrior inspired vehicles.
Hold above-mentioned car show in conjunction with a pre-show convoy.
Possible vehicular combat reenactments including the blowing-up of a derelict car. (We know some licensed Hollywood pyrotechnicians eager to demonstrate demolition... This is still in the brainstorming stages.)
Panels and discussion groups on all things Mad Max. Karol and others could host a series of panels on costuming alone. The replica owners could have a panel on how to get an Aussie car, how to make a replica, argue over authenticity, etc.
Postapocalyptic Fashion Show and BBQ (Sounds like fun, huh?)
Mad Max/Road Warrior display booth showing toys, models, books, props and whatever else people lend for display. A Mad Max museum, so to speak.
So, the first step is protect the fuel...
Wait, no, the first step is to gauge how much interest there is in this Roadwar Event. I need to be able to present a rough idea of how many fans would come in for this and especially how many Mad Max cars I could get besides my own sorry-ass fleet.
Jim? Gizzi? Doug? Mark? Anybody?
Thanks,
Mitch
