Greetings. Just looking at the picture below, and drawing the Pinnacles for years, I've often wondered where Max camped out. It had to be at the lower point (North set of outcroppings) because of the angle of the ground for driving the XB up there, The highest point would be too steep all around...any guesses or concrete evidence?
Bronze, the camp was at the lowest point in the center where it dips,that small point of rock in the middle is where both max and gyro looked over, I walked all round the pinnacle base that faced the pinnacle road and didn't really find anywhere to back a car up a lot easily. What i also found odd was that the attack on Nathan was on the road which is to the left of the above photo, yet when max and gyro are looking onto the attack they are lent against the rock on there right which would mean they are on this side of the pinnacle as seen above yet they both walk to the other side to watch the attack!!
If you give me some time i have a couple of closer photos of the camp area.
I think you'll find the area from where they watch the Nathan attack (with the car parked in the background) is a different position to where they originally overlook the compound when they arrive (you could never get a car up to the top).
As Adrian says, the vantage point from where you watch Nathan would be up the top, but in a different area to the camp site. The shots in the film looking back at Max and Gyro as they watch are actually a different location again, further down the front (towards the compound) at another outcropping of rocks.
Adrian is right, the first photo is looking up from near the road leading to the pinnacles. If you standing up at max's hide out, you would have to look across to the right almost to the pinnacles road to see my car.
If you stood next to my car and went in the direction that the back of my car is pointing, you would hit the refinery site about 200 metres behind. (to the right of this photo) you would go over a slight crest and then a slight downhill before you got to the refinery.
When George Kritty was over here last year i asked him about where the car could have been parked,I think he said it was Dennis Williams who had told him they did actually back it a fair way up but didn't know the precise location. I will endeavor to check again on my next outing!
Bad news , I was there at chrissy time and they are mining on the south side of the pinnicle. So to keep out everybody they have dug a huge mote type of hole and pushed up a heap of dirt , I followed the road of to the left for about 10 minutes and theres only one way in and thats through the front gate. Thats on the south -west side and being a mining site thats not gona happen . When i was there the spot where the interceptor was parked to watch the camp, there was a space where the photos above point to there was a small part of the ground graded so the car sat level. cheers scummy
scummy, After making my first trip there in 2004 and being able to drive right up to the pinnacle i was shocked to find on my second visit last July that it had indeed been blocked off, this did not deter me, i left the car at the road block and walked!
