Hi,

My name is Todd, and I have a question about Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. In the scene where Max walks into Bartertown after his vehicle was stolen, a passer-by selling water keeps persuading Max to buy it, but when Max takes out his device that gave off static, what device was that?

He waved it over the water tank the guy was moving and depending on where Max waved the device, it would give off high or low amounts of static.

Thanks,

Todd

It's a gieger counter it's used for measuring radiation being emmited by which ever source the device is held close to. The louder and more violent the static is, the more radiation is being given off. Most times that radiation isn't good for your health.

The water the bloke was trying to sell was contaminated, anyone drinking it would end up eventually liking "Arena" or crapping their lower intestines out on the ground, whichever's worse.

Welcome aboard Todd.

@Redd4:

Fallout is the radioactive dust that falls down after a nucliar explosion. And it looks like snow. It even has the same properties as snow. It's only not that cold.

Nah.. Only Radioactive Fallout is Radioactive. Image

Volcanos, conventional weapons, or any other event that throws material in ther air creates Fallout.

It's material that literally... falls out of a dust, ash or smoke cloud or any origin. Image

My wondering is, after 20 years, would the radioactivated particles still be that Hot?

Water, by the way, is not very absorbing of X-Ray and Gamma radiation (Which is why it makes a very poor Radiation sheild) and as such doesn't itself become radioactivated.

The contaminated particles, both conventional and atomic particles (Alpha and Beta) that might be IN The water however, would be quite toxic.

Alpha & beta particles are very heavy and will settle out of the water quickly and these have a very short half life and will decay to harmlessness in a few days.

So again, would the radioactivated ash still be THAT hot after 20 years?
