Dodge and Chevy going retro too?

Post by ydx7 »

Like Ford has done with their Mustang, it looks like there is a chance the other 2 might be doing likewise. Chevy unveiled a Camaro concept car that is based on their 60's versions. And Dodge has unveiled a concept car based on their Challenger muscle car.

I don't know if this is old news to you all. I found the articles of the auto section of msn.com. I'll let someone else visit there and provide the links.Image

Her ya go; the Camaro and the Challenger! So far the Challenger exists as artwork only; as far as I know they haven't built the concept car yet. I like the '71 'Cuda style grill and gills on it; I would like to see a Shaker hood on that puppy. Too bad they couldn't bring back the Plymouth name for that car and call it a 'Cuda. The Camaro is based on a Holden Commodore; first the Monaro becomes a GTO; now the Commodore becomes a Camaro!

Cool! I still like the black one better because it looks kind of like a '71 'Cuda.

The Dodge Challenger in the picture looks a little different to the artwork..... looks like a modified orginal car to get that look.

Having said that... looks very nice. The retro look is a great marketing tool, makes one re-live their mis-spent youth maybe???

Now a retro Ford Coupe...... Hmmm theres an idea......

The Dodge...It's glass on a steel Charger/Magnum/300 chassis. They were building it over at Special Projects a few months ago. I work in Plymouth Michigan (suburb of Detroit) and went there to get some parts for our own Autoshow property. It was in the paint booth getting a grey primer job. I could only glimpse the front end, the fender and the hood...SWEEEET! I'm going to the NAIAS on Tuesday. I'll get pics of it and have .MADMAX. post them. Definitely the next BoB! It has that aggressive stance to it...far more-so than the new Mustang and GTO/Manure-O. I won't even comment on the Chevy "Cuda" rip-off.

Here's the '05 Mustang GT..."retro Ford Coupe."

HOLY Crap! Our company makes the production version seats that are in the Dodge concept...they're modified SRT8 seats with production plastic sideshields (which I did the original clays and foam-core mockups about five years ago.) Lance Larsen is the principle designer of the seat shape...he'll be happy. What a small world.

The headlights and grill don't look right for a Camaro. The Challenger looks more authentic and it's not sporting the rubber band tires.

I've read that the Black Chally artwork wasn't even done by Chrysler design artists.. it was done by an artist for a Car magazine.

It's an independant rendering based on preliminary sketches and descriptions, according to that article.

I wonder how they'd price that Camaro if they put it into production?

$100K? $200K? Image

Idiots at GM Priced the Camaro & Firebird out of the price range of their target buyers, then pissed & moaned that their sales were down.
