The front of Max's Interceptor had the lights and grill piece attached- a startling contradiction to what happened in the opening chase sequence of Road Warrior.
Yep spot on Tom. What made me wonder is; was this an edited out scene from MM2? I had thought, initially, that is was the moment Max "met" Gyro Capt, but the nose of the car gave that away as this being from an earlier scene but nowhere in the film is Max seen outside of the car until after crashing into the back of that one he ran off the road in the opening chase scene.
Bronze21 sounds like your 8x10 piccie is the same as mine. I reduced it in size to fit the forum's pages
As for this being a snapshot of them rehearsing a scene, hmmm I'm not so sure, seems a little "full on" for that, if you get my drift. Mel is in character and costume and looking every inch the Max we know, he's hardly going through the motions of rehearsal. Yeah maybe a behind the scenes picture but that begs the question; from which scene?
I'm guessing this is actually a snapshot from missing footage. Which means there's more to the Mad Max2 story than we've seen. I sincerely hope that some of this comes out on a special edition DVD if that ever hits the shelves. Here's hoping.
BTW I also have a an 8x10 signed pic of Gyro Capt that my Bro' got for me from an earlier collectors fair. This one is definitly a behind the scenes pic. Bruce Spence is hissing at the snake. Funny pic.
Biker
Are we living in a land where sex and horror are the new gods?
Using this as a prime excuse to have a quick look at Mad Max 2 (I still get shivers every time I hear the opening monologue) and all the shots of the Gyro/Max and Snake scene have the BoB without the front end.
On a side note, I decided to wade through the tons of Mad Max memorabila I seem to have amassed and noticed something else.
In the Japanese Mad Max 2 booklet (and also I just noticed on the sticker sheet as well) there is a publicity shot of Max with post BoB crash injuries (the closed eye etc) but guess what vehicle he is leaning on.....
Maybe it did survive as is haunting the highways still!
I'll see if I can knock up a scan (been meaning to scan all this stuff for years anyway!) if someone does not beat me to it.
On a related note, how come the Japanese Mad Max stuff seems to have lots of great pictures none of the other stuff has?

Would that be Pappagallo's vehicle that was used in the closing chase?
the reason the BoB is pictured here with its MONZA still on is simply because they had THAT car on set that day, everyone knows there were two BoB's in MAD MAX 2, the original one was used for the banging into the LANDAU, you can tell cause the original has the back of it 'jacked up' a little and you can see clearance between the back wheel, and the wheel rim.
The double car is lowered and hunkers down, covering a slight bit of the backwheel, - there is also a difference with the interiors, - the original has the parcel shelf all the way at the back of the car, with plenty of room for DOG to fit back there, the double car has the shelf all the way up right behind MAX's head ( check out when he pulls up at GYRO's area, you can see it right behind MAX's head as he stops a second) - then when MAX gets out of the car and wanders away from it, look at the back of it - theres full clearance between that back wheel, its jacked up. Then as MAX is lead toward his car by GYRO look closely, and you'll see the car is low and it looks like you'll scrape your back tyre on the wheel rim - they obviously took the front end off before filming it.
