Black Monaro Pursuit Special

I'm looking at building a replica of the black 2-door Monaro at the begining of MM1, that was stolen by the Nightrider. I don't know of any other such replicas, so I though "It has to be done!" Just wondering if anyone has any extra info on this car to help me (I have been watching the DVD in slow motion over and over to get ideas). Also wondering what the general fan base thinks about this car, and the way it looks in the movie.

Obviously it is all banged up and damaged in the movie, but I am going to do it as if it would have been before it was stolen by the Nightrider ( no dents, scratches and nice paint). Any help (type of wheels, bonnet scoop etc) would be greatly appreciated. I have been in contact with Slippery Sam about the radio box, so I've got that covered.

Cheers!

Ahhh ... at last !!

I really hope you get this off the ground Flamethrower.

With regard to the base car I differ fom the info on Peter's site. With all due respect to Peter B the base car is not a Monaro LS.

The car is actually an early series Monaro ... the base model (Monaro/Monaro LS/ Monaro GTS).

My reasons are :

The car has no headrests or provision for headrests (H/R ... and rear vision mirrors ... are frequently removed during filming to minimise obstructions when shooting from the rear seat) which means it is the first series of the HQ.

If you freezeframe the DVD you can clearly see the dash which has both the configuration(same as a Kingswood ... the LS had a Premier dash ) and badging (Monaro) of the base model.

The car has single headlamps (LS has the premier front clip) and no guard flutes (which would make it possibly a GTS)

I have confirmed with Grant Page who did the stunt driving in the car that it was a 6 cylinder 4 speed.

As for the pre Nightrider configuration of the car you can see it in the scene in the MFP garage. The car had flares (L34 Torana flares?) and a Lightbar on the roof. That would be the one to replicate.

Thanks for the prompt reply XAMan!

Very informative!

I will be going home tonight and watching the garage scenes very carefully!!

(speaking of which, have you ever noticed the big white rocket-ship looking thing? Only noticed it last night)

I'm not too worried about the interior of the munro, besides the speaker box and blue light etc.

I like the sound of a light bar as well!

I've got flamethrowers on my curent ride (69 HK Brougham), so I reckon putting them on the Munro would help to give the impression of the flames that were generated by the rocket they put in the real stunt car!

The car I've found is a GTS, so it will have the fluted guards.

I wil have to carefully consider the flares too, might have to go a half way car like the original Interceptor in the Cars Of the Stars museum - a bit betwwen the two versions.

I think the average person would be hard pressed to pick minor details out of a replica, as long as that's all you say it is!

How did you find the dude that drove it?

I will post some pics of the beastie once i start getting into it!

Thanks again dude, hope to hear from you again!

Nice one Dean, it looks pretty cool with the lights on the roof in the garage scene.

Hi Dean, sounds like a good project you've got there!

From what i've noticed from the start chase scene, the car has the same wheel arch flares and front spoiler that the yellow cars have.

Good luck!

If you're doing the Nightrider car, there is NO lightbar on top. That is why there is the blue light inside, just like the BoB. Since the garage scene was filmed first, the bar was removed because either they thought the car looked better without, or to make it look like it was a different car than the one in the garage.

It looks like the wheels are silver Sunraysia like Max's yellow XB.

Whenever we used to have "VOTE YOUR FAVOURITE MAD MAX CAR" questions on the Forum, after i got done voting for all the FALCON's in the MAD MAX world, NIGHTRIDER's PURSUIT SPECIAL was always my first choice, i love the look of it being all bangedup, its like the BOB, in MAD MAX 2, gives it style looking 'strained' and used.

I can't beleive it!

My Post Appocalyptic World has come crashing down around me!

The sale of the donor monaro for my project has fallen through!!

I think the guy got wind of my idea, and could'nt bear to see his original, fair condition GTS to be transformed into a police car.

So I give thanks to all the replies I have had, all the suggestions and ideas, and so much support from everyone.

All this info has been saved for future reference, and my search will continue for another donor at the right price.

So watch this space for future up-dates.

Thanks again everyone!

See you on the Highway...
