Two contacts on the French Riviera write from the final days of Cannes on the current fate of several major projects in development and here's a sneak:

Mad Max 4
This one hurts to hear. Mel Gibson is out, George Miller is still in. Fury Road it's called, they're going to re-cast.[/font]
There's absolutely nothing good about that. The fact that Mel is officially out ruins the project. I have to honestly say that without Mel I have no interest in this film and if Miller truly conceives it as a Mad Max movie, then it destroys the continuity of the saga. This is really depressing.
Mel is Max. I really miss seeing Gibson up on the big screen.
A prequel.....ive thought about that for ages.but a young max?.....what would the story be about?......personally id like to see a movie made between mad max 1and 2.....with a prequel though you could show the mfp ats its full strength and how they slowly fell apart.......and how a young up and comer called max got to be top pursuit driver....who was his mentor?.....just a thought
You and me max.....were gonna give em back the heros!!
Yes Fury Road could be a prequel and show us MFP formed and how the world of Max evolved!!
I am sadenned though I like the thought of seeing what Max did after BTD even if he got knocked down by th Number 49 Bus to Bartertown at least we knew!!!! I wanted to go that one step further and explore a new world that had been created after Bartertown and see if society had managed to start again or sink to new depths.
George must think this script will work and be a winner if he is pursuing it without Mel or has he had a hasty redraft of the script to make it work without Mel?
No MEL, No me. And as far as i'm concerned MAD MAX was all the prequel we needed, since these movies have mainly concentrated on what happened AFTER the world ended, the original movie is pretty much all we need.
Plus MAX is so damn young in the movie, a Prequel of MAD MAX would have to show MAX as a child.
Well said, rock!!! We haven't talked in a while through the boards, but what you just said summed up my thoughts exactly.
The whole idea of a prequel makes no sense. Mel Gibson was like 21 when he made the first one. We don't need to see the early stages of the MFP. There are simply not that interesting. The fascination with this series has to do with Max's journey through a post-apocalyptic world after facing great tragedy.
And as far as Mel, he is my favorite actor, hands down. I'll miss seeing him on the big screen and if I was George Miller, I'd honestly never talk to Mel again after he agreed to star in Fury Road and then backed out. But Mel is Max and no one will ever be able to fill his boots in a "new Mad Max" movie. If Miller is seriously going to recast Max, then he's lost his mind.
Are you serious? Who wouldnt like to see Max six months before MM1?
Or see the MFP in full road wars with the Armalite Gangs, complete with squadrons of Pursuit and Interceptors. Not see a young Goose and see Max when he was a motorcycle cop?
How about Jessie when she was an exotic dancer? Or May Swasey's three triplette blond daughters and the fancy milking machine? Are you all mad?
yes rockatansky.......thunderdome.....you guys are correct....a mad max prequel would probably be boring just trying to see ways to relive the mad max saga without mel......but alas.......im running out of ideas
You and me max.....were gonna give em back the heros!!
