Bike replica "HELP-please-HELP"

Ok all you scoot jockeys out there I need some help (lots of help). I've just bought a bike to make a pseudo Goose replica. I've been wanting to build one for years and finally came across a bike that will do (not exact, but I'm no Goose replica myself ether). The KZ I've just picked up is an 82 with only about 7K on her, but has been partly disassembled and stored for .....ever. She's got after market forks and braces, upgraded brakes and a Lockhart oil cooler (will come in handy in Texas).

The plan is to make a semi daily rider cross between Goose's Bike and the feel of the Blk on Blk. Mod's from Goose's will be (at least at this early stage):

Blk on Blk's paint scheme (all be it on two wheels)

Custom/convertible one-to-two up seat (gotta be able to take the honey with me some time)

Updates to suspension and frame

Carbs and filters

?????

What I need is as much help as possible with details discovered about Goose's bike and available parts that are close (and preferable affordable) e.g.:

Fairing: I've contacted Replico and will go with them unless I can find closer. However they offer a model with ether "Lge or 7" head light, if I go with them which is correct???

Fairing Mounts: ??? may just fab them myself

Rear sets: I remember on an old post (maybe neobrit, allan, or Kwakka9) someone mentioned some that were close but a little milder????

Handle bars: Drag bars? Clip ons? Clubman?

A good view or art for the Kwaka and other markings: So I can get some made that would befit the Blk and Blk'esk paint

Anything else that can get my 82 to look more like Goose's 77 but handle and perform like nothing else it's age.

Come on and speak up... I've got the green light, and I really need to be spoon feed here.

So may I say just one last time "HELP"

You say you have an 82 KZ, but nothing more specific. Which model and what size, exactly? KZ LTD, GPZ, or? 750, 1000, 1100?

The choice of fairing may be dictated by the model and size of the bike. The size of the fairing and model of bike will go a long way towards deciding which bars. Clip-ons may be too low and narrow, clubmans may interfere on a newer model (GPZ), drag bars could be too narrow for the fairing and for decent control (flat track bars may be a good alternative to drag bars as they are similiar in rise, but much wider).

You will most definitely be fabbing your own fairing mounts (for all kinds of odd stuff and not so odd stuff when fabricating, or for anything really, http://www.mcmaster.com).

I'm sure there are some good KZ-GPZ forums out there. There are big bore kits for the 1000 (takes it to an 1150) and since the BoB was supercharged, a TC turbo kit would not be out of line (except with your wallet, of course!).

Find the Japanese Goose replica site listed on this site for decal reference.

Thanks for the response Mr. Maximus :). It's a KZ1000 (not LTD or GPZ). Yes I have thought about the turbo route and may still go that way (If you read my fan fiction on Uncle's site, there is a next Gen MFP bike in it that is TC'ed and has nitrous. Would it be pompus to make a replica from my own story? Is it kind of like laughing at your own jokes?).

When we brought her home on the trailer all squatted down by the straps...... she looked so nice. How about ways to lower her a bit? I hadn't thought about Flat track bars, hmmmmmm, if the rise was good they could be trimed in width. I was hoping for some direction on them so I could get the bars in work/ordered while I was waiting for the fairing (5 weeks from replico). But then again I've got plenty of things to work on while I wait.

Yea I've been to every site I could find on Goose stuff. And have tried many times in the past but can never get replies from the Jp sites. Although there isn't much on those sites I could use (or want at their prices $$$$) other than maybe a decal set. But then again if I do a BoB paint scheme, I would just need some art and have to produce them myself.

Anyone have any ideas for markings on a BoB bike?

I was thinking of maybe a dark gun metal gray to black fade (like Goose's silver to blue), with a reverse fade on the MFP markings. But I haven't really thought past that, other than maybe my own logo of some kind in place of Goose's. And then maybe some sort of WWII ace/kill type marking with armalite logos (small circles w/lines through them, maybe gray on the tank).[/font]

A few thoughts off the top of my head....

-for lowering, the front forks can be cut shorter (I'm not sure how this is accompliched, but it is a fairly common practice), the rear swing arm can be lowered, also. You can also get a 'stretched' swingarm for more stability in straightline stuff and for a wider rear tire!.

-for a paint job.....how about doing a gloss black to flat (or semi-flat) black fade with a gold 'MFP' on the tail fairing(or vice-versa)? With the gold 'shield' decal? Gloss black mags, no tint on the screen, no 'chrome' (just poilshed aluminum).

Love the idea of a Black on Black Goose bike.

Just a word of warning. The easiest way to drop the front end is to loosen the tripple clamps and allow the fork inners to protrude further from the top. This will certainly give the bike a more agressive stance but will PROFOUNDLY affect the machines steering ... especially under brakes!

Thanks all, Yes I'm thinking BoB KZ it will be :). I think I will do the gloss to semi gloss fade or tone on tone. But I think I will due the MFP on the tail and windscreen in a ghost color (ether a reverse fade or just off enough so you can barely see it. (Due to the fact the real Bob didn't have any other marking than the gold shield). And your right a gold shield on the fairing, and black mags are a must.

XA: When you said that lowering would "effect the bikes steering especially under braking"??? Was this if I only lowered the front? if I was to lower it equaly front and rear I wouldn't think it would cause to much of a change. Other than of course cornering clearance and such??

Road W. : I don't think I want to cange the swing arm to a longer one. Want to keep that fairly stock, but I have seen some Swing arms (for other bikes) with the shock mounts lowered, I think thats the way I'll go. As for the width of the tire I would like to go wider, but need to keep the same look as the original rim. Any idea how wide I can go with the original rim? If I do go with a TC I'll need extra width to keep it hooked up, Hmmmmm think, think....... Oh and sorry but I'm feeling tinted windscreen is the way to go. It seems like it would be just.... well more BoB that way... Plus as it's nice for those bright south Texas days.......

Keep feeding me the great ideas and suggestions (anybody else out there got any). Had to spend some time this weekend buying the wife a suburban (yeach11 she's turned Chevy on me) for her birthbay/valentines day. So I havcen't had a chance to touch the bike, but I'll get some pics started so as to follow the project and I'll post them some where once there is something intesting to show.........

In the mid 80's a friend modified a Honda Hurricane 750 into a Interceptor /Goose /Toecutter type bike.

This thing was meanness put to music.

IT was the red color of TC's bike with Interceptor MFP markings, header, Kerker exhaust, darkened windscreen, and shotblasted frame. I can still hear that inline four whine and the staccato barking at idle. Good memory.
