Grant Page was doing a stunt (fight coreography/stunt supervisor) for me today and I mentioned that I'd been down in Melbourne for the 25th Anniversary of the Cobra reunion and showed him a pic of my Cobra and Bruce's (lastxc) Cobra on Kirks Bridge. Grant showed me wher they drew chalk lines to get the angle of attack for the jump right as the creek is pretty narrow leaving little room for error.
There followed a brief Max chat that led to the Addicted to Bass clip and Grant said that he'd heard of it but never seen it.
I dragged him ... well not literally as who in their right mind would try to drag a stuntie anywhere ... into my office to see the clip on my computer.
He was pretty impressed by the 'chicken' head on sequence but really impressed by the caravan scene. I said that I'd just been to that location as well and it was now an industrial area full of commercial buildings. He told me about sneaking out there the night before and disassembling a cattle yard to use the timber ... and some bricks ... to build the ramp for the van jump.
Ah ... the good'ol days before OH&S and Workcover ....
He's a man with a million stories and they're all good.

You seen - WELCOME TO WHEREVER YOU ARE, the Documentary celebrating the MAD MAX mythology?
He's on that describing his first impressions of the INTERCEPTOR, the first time he ever drove it. A very poetic man.

Grant Page is one cool bloke, the stories he could tell would be as we say in Belfast "Belter".

He said When you first saw it , it was just unbelievable, a pure astounding sight, in his words "WOW" but then he goes on to say that though impressive to look at, it still was a vehicle of its time, and though on screen it looks like its extremely dynamic, and fast, it did take 1 and 2 mile run ups to get that fast. but fun to drive.
He mainly goes on about the philosophy of stuntmen, though he does explain the bikers being knocked off the bridge stunt, how it was done.

I remember reading somewhere (a BROKEN HILL Newspaper from about 99.i think) SCOTT SMITH saying his original REPLICA (not the PART 2 REPLICA) would severely whip the original MAD MAX INTERCEPTOR.

Probably. Other than cosmetics, I'm sure they didn't spend a penny on the drivetrain. All stock 1973 351 Falcon. I bet the MM2 replica would whoop it's arse too.

Hey Interdictor ... Grant is a really nice guy. I teach film production and he is so generous with his time and knowlege when dealing with the students that I always try to book him for our jobs. We used him a couple of weeks back for a scene where someone jumps off the gap (a Sydney clifftop favoured by suiciding Sydneysiders) and he came up with a way to cheat the shot so it wasn't really a stunt anymore and looks absolutely chilling on screen (35mm anomorphioc widescreen).
I've interviewed him for a book I'm working on and he's one of the best interviews so far ... excluding you Gordon H of course ... and the sheer number of Aus films that he's worked on is staggering.
I'm seeing him again next week so I'll pass on your regards. He's a humble bloke and seems genuinely suprised that anyone would be interested in him or his career!

Hey XA
You diplomat !!
Tell Grant that I liked his mellow kind looking human portray in "Tracker".
I had a glance down theie entries above, and I was a bit disappointed to read that anyone would make the comment that there car would whip the arse of the original film car.
I carry the film car in a different context, for a car to whip the original for me it has to star in a film that is the superior to the original, and then create a bigger following than the original cult car. The Interceptor is from the fantasy film world where performance is more than what it might or might not do on the street.
In film world it overcame the wasted and rotting urban world with a skilled driver, and 600 Hp at the wheels.
To loosely quote Grant Page above "When you first saw it , it was just unbelievable, a pure astounding sight, in his words "WOW".
And that is the film power of the original pursuit special interceptor
On ever replica we build I request this:
Main Force Patrol Pursuit Special Interceptor.
"A piece of History"
You now own a replica of a moment in history,
And In time that moment became history.
Film screen image and power will always shadow this car.
For this reason you must preserve the image.
For you are a caretaker first and an owner second.
Never match this car against any other.
Because that will place a yardstick (and humanize)
a machine that is immortal on film.
Never claim it to be anything other than a replica of the original,
not better, and not worse.
The Interceptor speaks for its self on film,
it does not need you to speak for it.
Treat it like it is a retired heavyweight Boxing champion.
It has said and done it all.
It has nothing to prove.

Hey XA .. Ha Ha ha .. I shooda said that for your book!
RIGHT Having said that if I built a replica with a dyno sheet to prove 600HP + at the wheels, and the driving ability of a real life Max Rockatanski I might be inclined to burn it up a bit. because it would be a genuine high horse power weapon.. with the claimed power of the origional. But even then... a comparison to the real car.. na never..
A legend is a legend because of what it has done.
Regards
Gordon
Cheers
