Second coolest action hero
What is everyone's favourite action hero (besides you-know-who)? And what makes them so cool in your books?
For me at the moment it would have to be the Man With No Name (ie in the Sergio Leone westerns), I just like his style: laid back, in charge, sharp shooter, loner who is always a step ahead of the game. Kind of parallels with Max that's probably why I like him so much.

Is that the one where he picks off the line of riders on horseback, by shooting the clasps on their saddlebags reflecting in the sun, and detonating the TNT while laying on the railroad track? I loved that movie as a kid...if that's the one I'm thinking of.

No.
SERGIO LEONE inspired ALL - and when I say "ALL" I mean "ALL" - the modern directors... SPIELBERG, MILLER, LUCAS, CARPENTER, RAIMI and... Have I really go on with the name list? Italians created the great cinema, Americans are STILL tryin' to make it. Sometimes they can, the most of the time they just cannot.
THE DOLLAR TRILOGY is sected in THREE TOTAL, COSMIC MASTERPIECES - GO TO IMDB and just check out CLINT EASTWOOD's personal file. CLINT played THE MAN WITH NO NAME ------ probably the GREATEST CHARACTER EVER and the ONLY one that can beats Max in the coolness department. There are a lot of parallels with the stylishing rise of the Mad Max movies. The first one out of the DT is the seminal work. The second one is a dark masterpiece, and the third one is an epic, somptuous, ambitious fresco. All the 3 movies are undisputed milestones in the cinema of all the times.
TRINITY was Terence Hill's cool and legendary B-movie western character, but he has little to do with Eastwood's sublime character.
So much for the history.

Anyone read the series of books SOLDIER OF FORTUNE? started in the 70's and i think there were a few in the 80's. but whoever has will know that its lead character JIM RAINEY, is the greatest (besides you know who) hero ever.
and lets not forget ERIC DRAVEN - evil as well as good.

I have to agree with Uncle. Hey, I love italian films, though I haven't seen many, but the dollars trilogy sticks in my mind. I have The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on DVD..
Ripley is probably the coolest female action star ever, IMO..
Snake...hmmm, he comes across as a bit of a try-hard to me, and the films aren't really that great, but I guess I'll have to see them again to make sure..

Nitro,
What's about the American dubbing of the Dollar trilogy? Was it good? The worst thing on the face of Earth is when they WASTE such masterpieces in such horrible way... Let me know, friend...

Uncle, I could not possibly rate the dubbing compared with the original, not only because I have only caught the italian dialogue from a few cut scenes, but because different languages have so many nuances and idiosyncracies that I could not come even close to understanding unless I lived in Italy and lived, breathed and learned the language.
But from my point of view, the voices of the main characters: Tuco, Blondie and Angel Eyes seemed vaguely similar but also wildly different. It was weird hearing Italian from Clint Eastwood, I know his voice so well. Overall though I think the dubbing was well done and true to the characters. Luckily Sergio Leones' masterpiece was not much about dialogue, anyway, but the action, setpieces, drama, the landscape, editing, etc. If you recall the first 10 minutes is without any dialogue.
Although I have to say with some of the minor characters the dubbing is very obvious. I actually prefer to see movies in their original language/dialect.
