The Springsteen Hypothesis

Post by Bronze Nurse »

When my friends and I were kids and saw MM1 for the forst time, we thought there were alot of references to Springsteen lyrics (suicide machine, highway 9, born to run, etc). Were we nuts, or did anyone else find that odd?

Those references are all from the Springsteen song "Born to Run":

"at night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines"

"sprung from cages on Highway 9"

I thought Springstein's album came out after MM1 was filmed. Anyone know for sure?

Night Rider is quoting AC/DC, which is an Autrailan band so it makes sense that it's them and not Bruce Springsteen.

He quotes the song Live Wire (1975): "Hotter than a rollin dice..." and also Rocker (1975): "I am a rocker/I am a roller..." etc.

AC/DC would make more sense.

Born to Run was released in September 1975. I guess we east coast yankees just think of Springsteen because he's close to home. The coincidence is uncanny, though.

anyone catch THE BOSS on AUSTRALIA's 60 MINUTES last night? I'm no fan, never have been, though STREETS OF PHILADELPHIA was pretty good, but he was a retty cool guy. incredibly laid back and intelligent.

I can remember in college (early 80's) I didn't think much of him, but another guy in my dorm had some albums and when you read the lyrics (let's face it- sometimes he's hard to undertand when he's singing) it shed a whole new dimension on him. Not just some Jersey hood with a guitar, but a very profound and sensitive soul who knows how to have a good time entertaining the masses.
