HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - The prospect of a war in Iraq has prompted 20th Century Fox to postpone the production start of "Mad Max: Fury Road," the fourth installment of http://rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/nm/film_n ... l%20GibsonMel Gibson's action adventure series.

The picture was expected to begin filming in Namibia in July. Instead, writer-director George Miller won't unleash the Road Warrior and his futuristic mayhem until sometime in the fall.

"Any time you do a show like this, it is a massive undertaking with enormous prep time," said Jim Gianopulos, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment. "In this case, it is about the movement of huge vehicles and a mass of people, and with the pending war and all the potential logistical consequences, we had the latitude to wait and let some of this stuff blow over before going into full-bore production. What we do have firmly in place is Mel and George."

Gianopulos said the studio, Gibson and Miller are fully committed to shoot the film in Namibia. Fox had penciled in a tentative summer 2004 release date, but Gianopulos said the studio won't know if the film can keep that date until an actual start date is set.

They're still making the movie. It wasn't cancelled and it certainly wasn't shelved. The release date might be pushed back a few months, but this always happens with movies and everything else in the world.

Hey, yeah.. Film a bunch of it in Oklahoma.

A good portion of OK looks quite a bit like the area rear Broken hill, and even has the Iron Oxide content int he soil for the red dirt effect. Image

Western Nebraska has some possibilities as well.

Just received my latest issue of Emtertainment Weekly in the mail, and there was a blurb under 'Loser of the Week' as follows:

'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Because of the threat of war with Iraq, production on Mel Gibson's fourth road-warrior saga - originally scheduled to begin shooting in Africa this July - has been postponed.

Old news by now. My question is why aren't other aspects of the movie going forward? Other preproduction work could continue, right? If people are still talking about building vehicles for the movie, they should use this time to finish/refine what they have. I'm hoping to hear a reassuring PR release from somebody that they're still committed to making this film.

The actual filming was postponed. Keep in mind filming for most movies usually takes around straight 3 months with call backs. The rest goes into pre-production and post-production with editing and whatnot. Now they have more time to put together sets, cast, vehicles, and other stuff.

That was my initial impression, but they said 'production' has been postponed, not filming. Hence my apprehension... I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, but that's why I brought up the issue of all the more time for vehicle/set design, script tweaking, etc. There's also the issue of other projects interfering with actor and studio committments. Films don't occur in a vacuum, and the filming timeline takes into account other projects. Hope nothing interferes with this one...

I still wanna see '101 Australian Cattle Dogs' and 'Babe: A Pig In Bartertown'
