Can it be done? No. The opening film footage with the chase scene is still the best start to an action film I've even seen. The Tanker chase scene is also class.
But 2 points :
1. Why did Max leave the compound during the night when he could have left with the school bus and other vehicles? A crafty man would have!!
2. After the Tanker crash, why did the remaining bikers/vehicles just turn around and ride/drive off. Surely, they would have inspected the Tanker and Rig for possible fuel, weapons, etc?

I would have add more rhytm and fast pacing a-la Thunderdome to the Tanker chase scene, and frankly, a more involving and poignant story in the middle section. Granted, with a fast-pacing MM2 final chase scene, Thunderdome chase scene would have become un-inspired and un-original. Just ONE movie, as always, and not 3 separate MOVIES. We have to think about "ONE" huge movie.
Anyway it's a silly point from the beginning, all the 3 movies are technically perfect!

Personally, I've always thought that the intro was weak. I never thought the WWII era footage shown tied in very well with the WWIII apocalypse theme.
Also, why is Max walking away from two rustic cross grave markers in the middle of nowhere when his wife and son died in a hospital? Or better yet, when Jessie wasn't even technically dead at the end of Mad Max?
Unless you mean the actual chase scene with Wez and the Landau and not the re-used Sarse/Scuttle footage. In that case, I agree 100%. Plus, Dog rocks.

The fight for the gasoline was already over. The tank was overthrown. It would be pointless to attack Max again ... for nothing than sand!Quote: Originally posted by Mud Guts on 24 February 2003

I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

how dare you even whisper re writing MAD MAX 2. the film is the greatest movie ever made, to think of any changes at all (except for cleaning up a couple of continuity errors and making it an hour longer) is pure sacrelidge (look you've gotten me so riled up i've even spelt that wrong).
MAX left the compound during the night, cause for starters it was NIGHT, what better time would there have been to sneak out past the vermin camps, fair enough he didn't exactly sneak with his supercharger screaming away, but no plans perfect, plus he'd overstayed his welcome, he'd done all this sh*t for them, sure. but he'd also just taken a sh*t load of their gas and punched out their leader, plus tensions were high as hell, after the vermin having their parade on the hill, torturing the compounds former members, plus everyone was getting ready for the battle, losing sleep and sh*t. plus max didn't know about the plan, infact i don't think anyone knew about it til the next morning except the leaders (probably all the ones that were present during max's deal making REBECCA, ZETTA, WARRIOR WOMEN etc.)
JESSE obviously died after MAD MAX, i mean sure she wasn't dead when max was standing at the doorway of the hospital, but that doesn't mean she didn't die later, its practically explained in the opening montage of footage, and its pretty obvious i think who the crosses belong to.

Well yeah, obviously. What I meant was she and the Sprog died at least a couple of days apart, in a hospital in civilization, and yet they're both buried together in the middle of some wasteland looking area with a couple of homemade markers.
Just seems to me like they'd be in some standard cemetary somewhere with proper tombstones, especially since Max went "mad" right thereafter and skipped town, likely leaving the hospital to handle the arrangements.
Also as far as the opening chase, it strikes me as odd that in his years of vehicular tussles between MM1 and MM2, the Pursuit Special's fiberglass Arcadipane nose survived until the Wez encounter. Hard to believe he'd never nudged anyone from behind before.
Just picking nits.

yeah, i always thought max took (maybe even stole), sprog and jesse's bodies and buried them himself, probably somewhere the three of them had shared good times with, maybe where they went on hoilday, before all the sh*t went down.
I always thought that too, that the INTERCEPTOR shoulda had alot more battle scars than just dirt all over it, he woulda come across hundreds of scavengers during the years out there and no panel damage, just the odd scratch here and there (which looks like dust damage thrown on the vehicle), also it shouldn't be that glossy black anymore, from all that sun and sh*t , it should have started to bleach a little. plus one thing i've noticed with FALCONS, in particular with the four or so, my dad owned DOORHANDLES. they always f**k up, something about the manufacturing of that car has always had a fault with the doorhandles FAIRLANES too actually. so in all those years max probably shoulda had to give that door a good shove when he had to get out.

I just got the MM2 DVD, and watched it for the first time in at least 10 years. Having watched MM endlessly since Christmas, I was eager to compare the two, since my recollection was that MM2 was the better flick.
Well, MM is the best. The photography in MM2 just isn't as skilled and in-your-face as the original for one thing. And does it bother anyone else that Max has like 10 lines of dialogue in the whole thing?
Dog rocks!
I think the scene with the two crosses was added to illustrate to those who had not seen MM that Jesse and Sprog were killed. It is a continuity error, but remember this film was made to stand on it's own, so may have been deemed necessary.
I think the characters in MM2 are more superficial...the only standout performance is the Gyro Captain, where MM you had Toecutter, Fifi, Goose, Johnny the Boy, etc. Wez isn't the Toecutter, let's face it.
I wouldn't re-write the movie, but I would re-shoot it and add a bit more depth to it.
Flame at will.
