I ve just been read the scott update thread and decided to start my own. Heres my great plan for a switchable setup that works and and you can feel. Admittedly It may never happen.
First point. Toyota Superchargers are a small rootes blower that is designed to be switched. They have a channel that runs the air around the supercharger case when not engaged.
Second point: Street machine (Aus) ran an article about fitting a switchable Toyota supercharger to a Holden (Buick) 3800 V6 EFI engine. This article included how to wire the switch up. Apparently a kit is available from Castlemaine Rod shop in Victoria (Aus). The whole kit sits out of site under the bonnet.
Third point: Last year Street machine had an article about a 302 Cleveland running twin toytota superchargers on a custom manifold. They were set up to run constantly not switched.
Ok With all this knowledge in hand. Heres how I would setup my switchable Interceptor:
Engine: 351 Cleveland running an EFI inlet manifold (very similar to Late 90's Windsor 302 EFI engines inlet manifold as used in ED-AU Falcon) Ive seen these clevo EFI maifolds advertised.
Fuel: Multi point Port fuel injection with custom loom and injection system (Haltech systems in Aus can provide a computer and loom to do this)
Supercharger: 1 (Maybe 2 later) toyota supercharger hooked up with electronic clutch in the same way as the Street Machine V6 Project. Supercharger pumps directly into Clevo EFI maifold. Wired off Gearstick switch. All under the bonnet hidden, no one knows.
empty 6/71 casing popping out of bonnet with scott hat on top . 6/71 belt running off seperate AC clutch on opposite side of engine to toyota supercharger clutch. For looks only, does completley nothing except spin belt and give whine noise.
Net result: you press the switch, the toyota supercharger gives you more low end power (being a rootes blower) whilst the fake 6/71 setup with the spinning belt gives you the looks. you smile a lot.
Cost: I wouldnt even dare guess...

Ford SVE in the US has a working Mustang with a switchable blower. Its also a flex fuel vehicle.
Its called the Super Stallion Concept.
Makes 590HP on E85(or straight ethanol) fuel.

The Toyota was a 1.6 engine. 2 of these may work on the 5.8 but they would have to turn a lot faster.
Have you considered a 351W EFI manifold?
Is your 351C 2V or 4V heads?
A couple guys have modified factory set ups to work on theirs.

Yeah, the Ford clutch system is based off of a hydro clutch they developed. I'm not sure if I'm confusing this next bit of info with Popular Science type stuff, but I think the clutch is fluid until you apply current to it and then it becomes a solid...or something near it which makes the clutch activate.
The system uses a dual plane intake I believe. I wish they'd let more info out...as the car hasn't been to my area yet.
The Toyota supercharger is I believe an M42 based Eaton blower...check the sites Brian first though. For a V8 you'd proably want something with at least 100 ci such as the Eaton M112.
My ideas on such a setup are far out there, as they revolve around a engine design similar to the movie(5.8L DOHC V8) and would be all EFI with Air bypass system and individual fuel injection systems.
Way complicated. It could be done...but I need to win the lottery first.

Has anyone thought of trying to use a dual fuel set up (ie: petrol/LPG) to compensate for the difference in compression when running naturally aspirated/supercharged? LPG likes high compression, while regular ulp could be used at low compression (with the blower off). Just a thought.

Those Toyota s/c's are quite compact, but I'm told will only pump enough air for a 2L engine. The 351 is almost 6L, you might need 3 of the little buggers to feed such a thirsty beast!
