Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
1. Did Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Furiosa, and Mad Max: The Wasteland development materials discuss the differences between the titles of Praetorian and Imperator in Immortan Joe's Army?
2. Did Mad Max: Furiosa development materials suggest the parents of Praetorian Jack were members of the Main Force Patrol instead of an unnamed military organization?

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
This is a tricky one. I do have the original treatment for Furiosa and it makes it very clear that 'The Praetorian' is a title for Immortan's most trusted person in command taking care of all kinds of security in and around the Citadel. So I think Praetorian is like head of security while Imperators are bodyguards. This makes sense in Furiosa (the film) because Jack is exactly that.
But Furiosa also becomes a Praetorian, and is later referred to as 'one of the Imperators' in Fury Road. The title of 'Praetorian' is gone in Fury Road and I honestly have no idea why. Maybe the Immortan decided to do away with this rank?
No. His parents were military. No mention of the MFP.

How old is Praetorian Jack?
This could even prove that Max 2 grew up in the post-apocalyptic world, and never was a pre-apocalyptic cop, but rather a vigilante belonging to a "gang" of self-appointed "cops".

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
Well there wasn't a great deal of age difference between Furiosa and Max in Fury Road, and both of them are well under 50 (Miller has clearly said FR is 45-50 years after the apocalypse and the two characters both probably meant to be around mid 30s in FR), so with the newer films, it's always been pretty clear that Max was born and grew up after whatever killed the world.Uncle Entity wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 5:06 am

To me, no matter what the comics say, Max of Fury Road/Furiosa/The Wasteland is simply not the same character as the road cop who once lived a relatively normal life that Mel Gibson played.

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
I've read that the backstory is that his parents were supposedly military allies or friends of Immortan Joe. But Jack says in Furiosa that they fought for the right things, or the side of good, or something to that effect. Doesn't sound like people that were on the same side as Immortan Joe. Was there any detail of this in anything you've seen?

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
Miller, this mad genius, still put Charlize as Furiosa in the film, haha.
In the very last scene when she is about to flee with the Five Wives you can see Charlize Therons face.
That moment is only a nano second long and it's very dark but you clearly can tell it's not Anya anymore.
I assume they digitally recreated Charlize Therons face, the same way they deep faked the likes of The Bullet Farmer.

Easter Eggs and Movie References
The physical message Dementus sent to Immortan Joe was like the scene in 1981 movie Escape from New York when Romero had a discussion with Hauk.
The short-barrel shotgun Praetorian Jack gave to Furiosa looked like the model used by Max in the 1979 movie Mad Max and the 1981 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
The shotgun shells Praetorian Jack gave to Furiosa were contained sone type of cloth. Papagallo gave shotgun shells to Max in the same way in the 1981 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
One of the followers of Dementus introduced Dementus to The Citadel members high above in a similar fashion The Toadie introduced The Humungus to the Oil Refinery in the 1981 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
The entrance to Gastown was guarded by two flamethrowers like the Oil Refinery in the 1981 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
A War Boy on a War Rig was raised into an elevated position on a pole that resembled the Pole Cats in the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road.
The motorcycles of Dementus approached their vehicle targets like the motorcycles of The Humungus attacked the Oil Refinery scouts in the 1981 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
The scene at The Citadel with a War Boy jumping was similar to the scene in the 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian when Thulsa Doom points to a follower who jumps during the discussion of flesh and steel between Thulsa Doom and Conan.

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
Some more nods and odds, there will be more...
The mannequin attached to the bike Dementus rides near the end, seems like a nod to the biker gang's mannequin in the original Mad Max.
The whistle young Furiosa uses at the beginning to sound danger/warning, is similar to the one Max uses in Thunderdome.
Smeg (the name seems to pay homage to the Smegma Crazies from Mad Max 2) dies in a sand sinkhole, similar to a situation in Thunderdome.
Smeg also has a similar role to that of Toady from Mad Max 2.
When in the meeting with Immortan Joe, Chris Hemsworth seemed to be channeling a wee bit of Stansfield (played excellently by Gary Oldman in the film Leon aka The Professional) when his nipples are nearly ripped off and he licks the blood from his finger.
Max's position atop the hill/escarpment, echoes that of when watching the oil refinery in Mad Max 2.
The War Boy atop the rig, pouring urine from a bottle on himself to put out the fire on his legs, a direct nod to a similar situation in Mad Max 2.
Furiosa's severed dangling arm, mirrors the hand of Cundalini in Mad Max.
Just before the Octoboss is drawn into the bommyknocker, a closeup of the villain's eyes is shown ( one of the series ongoing gracenotes).
Dementus has one pupil dilated, just as Max has in one eye in Thunderdome.
When Furiosa chases down Dementus and his remaining faithful near the end, she watches through her scope the demise of Rizzdale Pell, just as Max did in Mad Max 2 when he first comes across the refinery and watches the early leaving of a couple of vehicles.

One other nod to the originals is Dementus' leg brace on one leg and knife holder on the other leg. Along with the black leather pants, his lower half is very similar in appearance to Max in MM2.

Re: Furiosa with Spoilers Thread
There are plenty of references to the old movies. Especially MM2.
Dementus mentions one time about a "humungus load" of something (can't remember what)
Rizzdale Pell (first man of Dementus) is somewhat the same as The Toadie. Both with an eye patch.

"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.
