How did Max remove the grating outside Bartertown?

Post by Uncle Entity »

I have two questions about that scene:

1- How did Max manage to remove the grating? Was it easily removable? Not much safety on there...
2- When he is closing the grating behind him, and Savannah is near, is it me or I can see Max making the "thumb up" gesture?

In a post apocalyptic world you don't have much good quality work, maintenance ore inspection periods. So the metal grill at the end of the air or sewer pipe outside Bartertown was most likely rusted trough and not firmly attached (any more). So, it would not be a problem to remove it.

"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

What about this:

2- When he is closing the grating behind him, and Savannah is near, is it me or I can see Max making the "thumb up" gesture?

I am going to say, Max is known for carrying a handful of useful tools about. Bolted shut? He has a present wrench on his tool belt in MM2, presumably its still around. Tied with too hide thongs? Knife (he has one or two) ;-) , screws? A swiss army knife tucked away (or weatherman etc) would seem prudent.
Welded? AHHHHH F'K! Ok so its so rusted it falls off as stated above...... No wait, cutting torch hidden in his boot?
Now for the painful one many flamers used to put up.... "Its in the script.".

That's true. Even if at the entrance of Bartertown, he had been deprived of weapons, I think that he had some of them hidden in his suit anyway.

For sure. He had a knife in his fly swatter after all.

LOL, true.

I rewatched the sequence on blu-ray, it truly looks great.

By the way, Scrooloose, Mr. Skyfish and Eddie sneaked across the grating before Max would open it. So I guess that it was hard for Max to accomplish that, because the three kids had enough time to reach Underworld, even before Ironbar and the three Imperial Guards.
