Hello everyone. I've been on this board for 14 years and took on moderation duties for about 3 years if I remember correctly.

The issue here being is that this forum is wide open for spam. Anyone can register and 99% of people registering here are spammers, spam bots.

I've been cleaning up this mess every day and I stopped doing so for the past week to give to you an idea of how bad is.
I contacted Peter about this without any response. My only action right now is just to leave this forum free for any spammer to post whatever virus infecting link they can.

Peter, this is the center of all Mad Max information and discussion, no matter what is and has been going on around it, facebook groups and whatnot.
Further negligence of this place will result in absolute annihilation of this forum. It's only stopped because I'm obliged every day to delete all the spam posts and accounts manually.

Let's figure out a way to avoid this and keep this thing running.

It's getting out of hand indeed. I check the forum several times a day and see them come here about every day.
Taipan, are you the only moderator on the board at the moment? This is almost a full time job to clear that mess every day.

Registering on this forum should be done through a system it can only be done manually by a person. With a captcha or something. And you have to read, and check to agree, to a agreement for what this forum is about. And also that this forum is in English. Some spammers post in Russian (or some other Cyrillic language) even when they should know we don't understand a f*cking word they are saying.

Maybe the first few posts of a new member should be checked before they are allowed to be posted.

Just my ideas.

The easiest way is to manually accept forum members. It's pretty obvious who the spammers are. This would eliminate them entirely.

But the way things are set up now it's a free for all and I don't have time tom delete all the garbage that's coming in. That's why I'll stop what I'm doing and let this place become infested as sad as it is.
But it needs to be done to show the extent as to which this is going on. Hopefully we'll get control of it because I'm not letting go of this place so easily.

I am relatively new here but would love to see the spam go away.
I think this is a great forum and I support any action you guys take.

I think that, at least, the registering procedure should be changed, so they can be stopped at "the front door".
And, like on the old forum, there should be more moderators to handle the garbage that still gets through.
With more moderators the work gets more divided. And more chance of surveillance around the clock. Every moderator has his/her own free time to check the forum. With only one moderator, all the work has to be done at one time. And for the time he's offline, it is just an open door for the trash to flow in.

The forum has indeed become a sadly abused location as of late. But I would also like to add that the rest of the site does not live up to it's potential either. Granted there are no movies in production right now but there is a lot of fan activity happening around the globe. Why is this site not picking up on this. Between September 2015 and now there has been only ONE (1) news item reported on the front page. The site could be so much more.

It's just easier to go on facebook and do that really.
But the thing is, this is the hub of people that are the core of this franchise. Every single person I talked with here has a tons of insight and passion for those movies. Not so much people who post nonsense 'mad max related' stuff elsewhere.
That's why I think it's worthy to keep this place clean. Because all in all, this is where all the info about the movies comes from.

Add another mod or two?? And can the board setting s be changed for members joining?

(facebook isnt much different, 10000000s of spambot profiles)
