Apologies for mentioning a subject that may have been discussed years ago. I just learned this information.
Was the 1988 TV movie "Badlands 2005" an inspiration for Mad Max Fury Road? Immortan Joe himself, Hugh Keays-Byrne, was one of the cast in this series pilot about a future USA where water is in short supply.

Games Workshop released its 3D car combat board game "Dark Future" in 1988, a game that also featured a USA where water was in limited supply. I do not believe "Dark Future" has any connection to "Badlands 2005," but its fun for two similar post-apocalyptic settings to be released in the same year.
