Nitrous Oxide in Interceptor?

Anyone know what the little grey tank/can thing on the dash might be? It's next to where the blue siren was in the first film. Could it possibly be a small nitrus oxide tank? I don't think it is but I'm not terribly knowledgeable about it. I'm taking a comic book class in America (NYC) and my teacher wrote a little practice script in which Max unscrews a nitrous tank and flicks a switch to activate it. It's just a silly little class assignment, it doesn't really matter, but I want to be as accurate as possible. It's Road Warrior era bur just before the movie, Thanks!

I think it is a spare coil. It does not look to have a function really.

I just reviewed a few photos I have of the original car. It's a coil attached to the dash with a worm clamp. Non-functional yet seems like it is there to add complexity and depth to the car. Just my $0.02.
